I am planning a trip to either nootka sound or tofino July 21-28 any recommendations which would be better end of july?? Does anyone know anything about cougar creek camp??
Tight lines

I would go to Ucluelet over Tofino better fishing overall and more options if the wind is to strong to go offshore. Though having lived in Tofino many years ago I like the community of Tofino a lot more than Ucluelet. Nootka can get very congested in the inside fishing areas.

Thanks Riptide, Never fished Ucluelet is it mostly offshore or inside?

Offshore I have had good success at the wreck about 13 miles offshore also south west corner, and big bank.

Closer in but on the exposed side of Ucluelet you can fish big beach, little beach, and wyaa point.

For more protected areas try off beg island also check out this link

I like to go at the end of August it is non stop action.

I've fished offshore from both Ucluelet and Bamfield, and I keep hearing all these different names for the different banks. I've usually just turned on the radar, check to see where the fleet is, and then head out.

Can anybody share some GPS coordinates that would help us all to figure out where these locally named spots actually are? I'm not asking for your favourite Hali hole. I just want to be able to look at a chart and know where Big bank, the wreck, south west corner, etc. are!

Nootka will be VERY crowded at the end of July. The campsite in particular would be hard to get into. People camping in the ditch outside of the campsite on a waiting list.
Depending on the size of your boat, the road into the campsite is was fairly rough last year so you may not want to be towing a large boat in there on a roller trailer.

You should note moorage in Ucluelet can be an issue as well. You may find you have to go to one of the government docks as the Marina (Island West Fishing Resort )can get quite busy, phone in advance.

look up mootcha bay great place 2 camp and fish out of, morage fuel store only about 10 min run 2 cougar creek , but the drive is very easy , they might be full up now but never know, this is for nootka sound area , i`m going aug 6 tell 12 . tight lines

I've fished the Alberni Inlet to the outside banks of tofino. I've always said that we had the best fishing in the world. But this past year I had the chance to guide out of a lodge in Nootka sound. The fishing was busy, but not as busy as it gets in the Barkley Sound. I do have to say that the fishing was crazy. The rods never stopped screaming. The fish were all huge, and you could never beat the veiw! I highly recomend going to the Sound and spending some time around Friendly Cove.

I believe Ucluelet has more options. I fish SouthBank,5 different places, 2 at Southwest Corner and I don't know how many on Big Bank. If the waters rough, you can go inside to Crow, Cree, Kirby and many others places. Tofino does get the first of the big runs at Portland Point outside 6 miles though. When I go up to the boat the next time, I'll try to remember to bring back some numbers that I've used and did pretty well. Maybe someone can educate me on fishing Sooke sometime.

Teamchachi, Here are some number for the general area I fish. Portland Point
49.02.350N
125.47.980W
Outside six miles
49.00.954N
125.53.854W Look around for big bail balls
Lighhouse Bank
48.56.798N
125.32.901W
South Bank
48.50.150N
125.36.313W Work the humps all the way down.
SouthWest Corner
Upper
48.51.400N
125.50.100W
Lower
48.50.150N
125.47.250W Look for bail again.
Big Bank. This is a really large area. This is where the charters fish a lot. Good Halibut spot.
48.37.412N
125.40.890W
Places like Cree and Kirby can be seen on the map easy.
Did pretty good this year with a glow white hoochie with a mylard skirt. Didn't matter what color the flasher was. By July, the big plugs works the best. Seven inchers.
