New trailer recommendations

It sounds like they keep all the components on hand so they can assemble parts to fit your boat. I just formalized the order last Wednesday. Was told it MIGHT be here this week, but they took a loooong weekend at Highliner, so I’m not expecting it til mid next week, realistically.
If you want to deal with Highliner, print out their trailer order form from their website. You’ll need a good plumb bob and a flat surface to mark out the measurements you’ll need to give them. The more info you give them, the closer they will be able to set up the trailer to fit.
I’m expecting to do some adjustments to get the bunks & bow roller in the right spot.

I ended up buying a new galvanized Tuff trailer from Sherwood. The 4000lb single axle price was very reasonable, I couldn’t pass it up. Hopefully, the trailer holds up for many years to come, like the original Karavan trailer.

After talking to Bill at Highliner, I decided to buy a new trailer instead of putting inexpensive disc brakes on the old one. It seems that the original trailer was marginal before adding a second battery, and a kicker. Converting to four stroke power added another 100 pounds. After weighing the boat & trailer & doing a bit of arithmetic, it was plain that the old trailer is not up to the job, especially since I want to do some longer trips this year.
There was even a question of whether my insurance would be valid, using an overloaded trailer.
Heavier trailer, axle, wheels etc. a bit longer tongue to make backing easier and stainless Kodiak brakes all add up to a lot more comfort & safety on the road. A serious hit to the pocketbook, but worth it.
I hope to be able to sell the old trailer to offset the price a bit. It’s a bit rough, but still very serviceable for a lighter boat than my heavy 19 footer.

I bought a new Highliner from Mercury Marine in Victoria 20+ years ago before they went out of business. Bill at Highliner has been great with parts and advice over the years. The trailer has been rebuilt as needed and I'd buy another. I'm not sure who in Victoria sells Highliner these days.

Were the fancy alloy wheels standard? Or did you pay extra for them? Nice looking trailer!

Thanks! Wheels came factory with nice 10ply load range E tires as well.
