Looking a 17 ft glas ply boat . Was just planning on learning the sooke basin/ otter point area . Just wondering if that’s a little small for the area .

We fished that area for years in a 17 foot Malibu Tyee. It's a great size for you and a buddy or two to fish from. You'll see many guys choose a similar size boat. Economical and easy to handle, trailer and maintain.

I’ve fished a ton out of a friends 17’ Hourston. Should be capable in moderate weather.

I went from a 14 Livingston to a 24 SeaRay now a 33 ChrisCraft. The 14 spent most of it's hours offshore WCVI. Use whatever you have safely, buy safely equipment. If it is rough, fishing is difficult & unpleasant no matter the size of boat
