Navionics App

If you have cell service, you could still just go on the website for free rather than a paid app I guess.

So you still have access to the maps if you don’t renew your subscription? Also, is there another app that anyone would recommend? I have a Helix 5, but not sure if the maps are accurate.

I have been using Navionics on three devices: an iPhone, my home iPad and my boat iPad. A year or two ago I had a sub and it was possible to synch all the devices and have my saved information all the same across all devices. My strategy was to subscribes only once every few years, to update my personally added points of interest mostly. I don’t rely on it for long distance navigation, just local boating where I don’t plot out courses and checkpoints. A few months ago I got a new iPhone. The charts on the new iPhone have reverted to crude sketches and the ransom is I have to subscribe for $80 a year (or more, clearly) for the rest of my boating days. I simply don’t buy the theory that, “see we’ve added all this new stuff, so we’ll now charge ten times more than we charged you ten years ago”. Actually is about fifteen times more than my initial subscription years ago. Another thing: I’ve been using the Sonarcharts feature which redraws your contour lines, and to my great disappointment Navionics has dropped support for this feature.
Anyone have a good and less costly alternative to Navionics? Anyone using Sonarcharts? I was always hoping the Sonarcharts would mature and allow 1 meter or a half fathom gradients for us saltwater folk, but I don’t know if they ever went there.
