well i went out landed 4 of 5 fish, lost a 10, one undersized, two 7s and an 18 pounder. All off decourcy, the 18 was on a splatterback hootchie, and it had a squid in it;)and wonderbread, copcar, and green glow coyotes were also working well.

not too bad fishing i would say:)

Whalebone was on fire, with an 18 topping the scales. Lost another to teeth I presume on an anchovy in a clear green teaser. Mid morning was the time, could have been all day but it did not take long to tub.-dirty
p.s.- the splatter was being destroyed, have not seen hits like that in the Nanaimo area for some time.

...lot's more fish in today - five were in the 18 to 25 lbs. range and quite afew smaller fish too. Seals seem to be almost non-existent, a pod of killers went thru today as well. Commercial Prawners are going full on...DFO was around as well - good to see them out and about. Entrence thru whale bone and the cannery are where the reports came from today. Chov's, splatter backs, white, uv hootchy's...

;)

I fish the stewart channel side near ruxton pass. I can safely say i know that area better then anyone, three years of fishing for springs with decent success.Only 4 minutes from my cabin on ruxton too. Where abouts is your place on decourcy?

Hey Rob, we're about 1/2 way up on the east side, not on the water. I'm heading over for a few days on Monday to get the ol' homestead up and running for the summer. Have you fished the inside lately? Anything still around? Any interest in a combined effort next week? I'll supply the bevvies!

What the heck is a "splatter back" hootchie?

spackle back, splatter back i have no idea what it actualy is called.
but a glow hootchie with some green "splats" on its back.

last weekend i got blown out of there, but plan on getting out this weekend!
I'll report when i return

Rob are you going to stay on the inside? Ill be heading to porlier in the morning and make are way down to thrasher .

we're putting the trophy in the water and probably will be giving the grande a try, if not then thrasher. Its all depending on the wind.

I don't think I'll be over this weekend, but maybe soon. I need to find one of those darn spattered hootchies. [8D]

well too windy on the outside to even move.
but still managed to land some nice fish from the 8 to 16 lbs range on the inside, all on copcar coyotes.

Excellent image! Thanks Rob and Dog.

PS: Dog, I noticed you like to keep an eye on things. [8D]

Thats right red monster. I like the eyes. I put them on everything that doesnt already have one.

Dog do you think the eye's make a difference.I used to put them on my anchovie specials but was never sure if they made a difference.

tyee2112, I never compared with and without eyes. When the yellowtail silverback coyote first came out (top center in pic link), I started having good luck with it on bright days and thought that maybe the painted black dot eye it has was helping, so I added an eye to the back and continued using them on everything else ever since. All I can tell you is that I think it helps. So far that spoon has hooked springs, coho, rockfish, a big sardinus pilchardus, and a seal. I asked a legendary local pro once and he said he used to add eyes to his holders and couldnt remember why he stopped.

I dont use holders myself because the few times a year that I do run chovies, I like to experiment with a 3 hook setup with whole head-on with the real chovie eyes exposed behind a dodger.

sorry for the long side-bar.

went out again today, caught a 12 and a 20.
copcar and a "splatterback hootchie".

tonnes of feed, fish hitting midwater.

Sounds like i better move to Nanaimo!!
Is the fishing better this year than most ?
very encouraging to see the Springs on the inside in good numbers:D
