Not sure its second hand info from buddies. They have said there is bait but just few fish. Weird there is fish 10 miles north and 10 miles south but few inbetween. Ill try it out wed night and see if theres anything around.

One of the tacks has to be holding fish, Theres a 130 ft tack on the outside, then theres the gap/north end, or the reefs down the south end. I've hit fish out in the abyss too (1000+ ft). About 4-5 miles off gray rock.

They gotta be around somewhere.

Cheers All,

Anybody else tired of the wind? My guests cancelled this morning so I spent the day helping neighbour fix his boat. This evening we finished so we had to try it out. Yup! Caught one fish...35 lbs!

Hope this never stops! If the wind dies off tonight I am out in the am!

It was better when it was cloudy, for the wind factor.

as of noon today when i got off the water, it was disgusting.
I was fishing at 5:30, my buddy who was also up there fishing had a fish in the boat before we had even launched,
and that was the only fish i saw or heard of being caught. My 14' was being thrown around in a 4' chop or so, and the weeds were making fishing hell - i was very dissappointed.

On the way home we stopped and fished tent though - glass calm but no fish to be found for anyone there either, between about 10 of us.
so, :):([xx(]

Here's to the good fishing continuing over there for you guys. I haven't seen the glowing reports that were up 5 days ago but let's hope it's not over yet.

I'm going have to make the trip across, wasn't able to so far but maybe next weekend. Thinking I might try Porlier area.

I'm also going to try to pick up a ling in the open area off of Valdes and Galiano. If we can find one bigger than 60cm.[:0](see Fishery Notice FN0329)

Finished some work out at Sproat Lake today, needed to drop my brother off at the ferry in Departure Bay.Of course a stop by the boat launch was needed. The fish comming up the docks were awesome, most on bait at 120-165.will be out on the water Tuesday

Cheers All,

There are still fish off Fingers in Nanaimo. Caught a 35 lbs last night and four springs today (kept a 14 and 20).

Here's hoping it continues all summer.

I may give it a try next weekend if it's not too windy. Whereabouts is a good place to start? A few miles off Five Fingers?

Remember, it's called "fishing," not "catching."

we were into 8 off the Fingers this afternoon. Nothing big, mid teens. Splatterback, army truck and purple haze were all producing. The fish wre a bit deeper as the day went on, mostly in the 160-180 foot range with a couple up around 100.

Yep, we braved the wind on Saturday and were into 4, landed 2 and on Sunday it was better, landed 7. Non stop action on the flood tide. All of them are down at 171 feet on green splatter back. Majority are marbled whites - only 1 red. Checking them it seems all are fall spawners, so likely they are Harrison River fish which have in past years started the feeding in the Good luck! Gulf, then migrate north around the top of the island and then back down the west coast of the island - usually as big fish in the 30 pound class. Should be a great year just off shore from Barkley Sound in late August or early September when they stop to bulk up before heading south to the river.

Ya I noticed the Marble to them.

I'm curious searun since you seem to know allot more about the migratory habits of some of the runs than I do. I always assumed that springs overwintered up north then migrated down either the inside or outside depending on their destination. If these are harrison fish why in the world would they stage in Nanaimo then make the long trip around the island, down the west coast then almost back to where they are holding before moving to the fraser.

Some of these fish are from the Sacramento and Columbia river. Nanaimo went hot, then thrasher, then Porlier and Galiano on the east side.... they are on the move south, I will chase them if I have too this week.
