lost a good rod a while back trying to break it apart. some good ideas here might have saved it. Now i keep the ends coated with drysuit zipper wax from time to time. If you want to freeze it easy get a can of compressed air and spray the rod with the can upside down, it sprays out freezing cold propellent when you do that. Insta freeze.

Actually what it does is stops the swelling, that is what is what's holding the rod together, moisture and swelling. Again never had a rod stuck but happens quite often with duck calls.

First and foremost thanks to all for the suggestions on getting the rod un-stuck.
After first trying heat then freezing then heat again with oil I was thinking I was going to be rod shopping soon. Decided to tape some pencils to it as suggested here and then freeze it for hours ,I was able to get it twisting and then apart.
Good news for me!
Laid it across the deep freeze and put a blanket over the lid. Pencils made a big dif to get it twisting a little.

nice jencourt, but what are ya going to do b4 ya put it back together so it doent get stuck again?holmes*
I tried the suggestion of taking some oil from my nose and forehead. seems to work. Sounds funny I know but that little bit seems to do the trick.
Also going to make sure I do not get so much "Help" putting the gear away next time. LOL
