My rod is stuck !!!

So we were cleaning boat and washing gear today. Had just finished hosing off the rods and stuff, wen my brother-in-law decides to put my rod together.
Well I am now unable to get it to come apart.

I am guessing it has something to do with the fact it was wet wen put together?

Any ideas how to get it apart ?

10ft 6 convergence don't fit too many places wen in 1 piece.

gently warm up the large opening then apply wd 40 or similar

it has to come apart, i'd try twisting and pulling at same time, I dont think it will break
if it does send it back for warranty

I've got one with a metal ferrul that is permanently stuck. Does it twist at all? If you decide to use pliers or a vice be very careful not to compromise the graphite. Heat and lube is probably the best bet.

I was taught the best grip to pull them apart when they are stuck is behind your back applying equal pressure and not with your hands up against the eyes. You may want to try some good penetrating lube overnight first. If that does not work and it is an expensive rod, especially if you bought it used, take it to a service centre. It was worth the $10:00 or so and piece of mind to have them do it for me on a Loomis rod. I understand they used some lube and a few strong guys to pull it apart with even pressure. An old trick is to rub the end of the rod through your hair before you put the rod together. Even clean hair has a lot of natural oil and they won't usually get stuck if you do this first.

Bend down slightly and bend your knees(not a joke)with your legs about a 11/2 feet apart. Place the rod behind your knees with the ferrule half way between. Grip the rod firmly on the outside of the knees-then move your knees outward holding on to each side of the rod firmly. It should pop out without breaking. Hope I have explained it ok-it is simple to do once you have seen it done.

I have had this happen with wood and delrin and graphite duck calls. But never with a rod. It has to do with the moisture and swelling. Stick it in the freezer and they come apart no prob. Not sure how you get a 10. Footer in the freezer though

Spring Fever, you have it right on,,, my grandfather taught me that when I was a kid, it really works, (he told me to sit down to do it though). He also said do not ever put a wet rod together, as if it is a good quality, well made rod, it will hydraulic when put together and makes it very hard to get apart.

Pull straight and hard and steady so that you do not crack the barrel. I had a fly rod do this to me once and being young and not strong enough, I could only get it to separate about two thirds of the way and then it would suck right back in to the barrel, let it sit for a couple of days (assuming that it must have dried out a bit) and then it came apart.

Spring Fever, look at Lorneparker1's avatar photo and Osama is assuming the stance, although one does not need to remove their pants for this job:p;)LOL

I had a G loomis that was welded together last fall.I tried all of the above ideas over a two week span with no luck.It finally came apart after I taped two pencils on each half of the rod with electrical tape. This gave my hands enough grip on the slim blank to twist it apart.Once its apart before you put it back together rub your nose with you fingers and lube the male end of the ferrule. the oil from you nose acts like a lubricant on the rod blank.

Same as you a good loomis which was put together wet ARRRRRRGGGG I used a hair dryer on mine as it dosnt heat it up to much then grabed a rag and came off easy as hell this after I did what Kitimat did just another option.. still using it today with no ill effects

Good luck wolf

Seen this happen with 2 dogs on a trip to Costa Rica. They were getting their whap on and the poor guy got stuck in the *****. Turned into a serious dog scrap whilst he was still locked in her. "ruff"

My grandfather taught me that trick and to date I have never had a rod get stuck.

If you need more grip on the sections, get a couple pieces of old inner tube and wrap them around the rod. Really helps.
When and if you get them separated :) put some soft candle wax on the male section before putting the sections together. Stops binding and loosening.

A solution that was told to me by another member and worked for me.
Lay the rod across your freezer then close the lid.
Put a sleeping bag on the freezer lid to contain the cold.
Wait 30 minutes and try to pull apart.
