My personal favorite rod on a downrigger...

My favorite rod on a downrigger is a HARDY Ten Ten. I love the old school power and parabolic curve and the great battle action. I do also like the HARDY 10ft Mooching rod too, but it's a little light action compared to the Ten Ten for the way I fish. I have few old school PEETZ rods that I like too. I am just uncertain what model they are, one is 7ft and the other is 8ft. They are OG yellow Lamiglas though.

What's your number one choice in a mooching rod and why?
I have one of the 10' Moochers and a Long Stone I am going to try out this summer with live herring. From your view is it worth getting all new guides put on these rods? About half of the guides have one side of the arm broken off where it meets the ring. I definaltely have a liking to older gear, but am going to test it out before I get any work done on it. Same with the reel, its not in great looking shape, works well, so if I like it, will probably get it cerakoted to match the rod.

I recently sold my 2 Hardy Longstones that I wanted to use for jigging salmon but found them too slow/small to catch up to the springs.I've heard about the Hardy 10-10's for so many years,I'd like to try one. I've been using G-Loomis 1265's for downriggers.

If they are in good condition other than the guides, then yes of coarse it's worth redoing. I still have a couple of 10's and seven Ten Ten rods.

I've started developing a couple of actions for a possible range of PEETZ rods. So far a 9ft and a 10'6" are being worked out for downriggers. Later I'll work out a pair of jigging rods and a couple for freshwater. Once they have been fully tested and beat on, then I'll decide if it is the direction that I'll take it or not.

Can’t go wrong with a Technium M power. They last forever. Super sensitive. Can handle some very large fish. But also still make a 10lber feel sporting. Have never fished a 10 10 though… look forward to the Peetz products coming along.

The OG Techniums were pretty bulletproof even when abused. Not sure what the new model is like. Shimano generally does a great job. Over my lifetime I have personally never had a single issue with any Shimano products that I have owned. Any rod breaks were my fault not the product. I always push the limits of my tools, which in turn becomes my fault for any breaks that I may cause. I own the issues that I cause.

Now-a-days I am all in on PEETZ gear, especially Vintage, but I do however enjoy the development processes of working in on improvements and new product ranges.
