My Last Boat Build

Just a little background-I'm almost 75-sold my Skagit 2 years ago-replaced it with a 12 ft tinny- caught lots of ground fish and the odd salmon off our beach( Saratoga)-then stepped up to a 14ft Smoker craft Alaskan with a new 30 merc caught mostly everything-took up hi tech jigging-Lot of help from members here such as Waterwolf' Original Riptide and ILHG I was converted-but crossing to the Green Can and going to Grants reef was always a bit risky especially if no one was there. So I wrote down everything I liked about the 14 and what needed correcting. Cheap to run' stored in the garage, easy to launch, fish by myself Needed more stability' 2 motors' Range' higher freeboard Talked about all my wants with Don at Shadowline in Campbell river and came up with a 17ft CC that was specifically made to fit the bill. Hoping for the best Powered by a 60 hp 25inch merc and a 9.9 25 inch from inlet marine--why Merc-well only merc makes a 60 with a 25 inch leg.. Looked at Silver streak and lifetimer-great boats but while custom-they were far away and because this is a small boat they kind of wanted to go to a drop down menu type thing whereas Don was enthusiastic and giving me my custom jigging machine. So here it starts-just the bottom laid out by friday-should all be done by the time I get home april 1. Decent sounder/gps with airmar p66 ' hydraulic steering 'radio. I realize my West coast days are done-but this boat and ultra lite tackle should be a blast and get enough fish for Food and Ceremonial!! LOL

Mike. I have a line on demo Carbon 7’s if you are interested. I just bought new Carbon 9’s from Harbour Chandler. Great buy on them and pair great with an Airmar P66

Progress for this week-motors were sent from inlet marine-fuel tank to be built and installed in the coming week-looking good so far

A lot has happened in 2 weeks-Don built a fuel tank and called because it was 150L he felt it was too big for my needs so we decided that 100 L was more appropriate- things are taking shape. Floors next week and roll over(whatever that entails!!

You'll get alot of mileage with a 100L tank! Looks great

He
That fella sure does good work. Is that a design of his own, or is it something borrowed?
He designed it based on what I said I wanted. I was looking for a serious jigging machine that would be economical, safe , stable, roomy, garageable could handle 2 riggers have a kicker as well as a main. Easy guy to work with-understands what we are going for and so far I am happy. Timeframe -he has done exactly what he said he would do and when

Roll over entails(straight fromshadowline)
It’s how all of the bottom welding, lift strakes
And keel doublers get welded on. Usually about 60 to 75 percent complete for fabrication at that point. I’ll send you a video of the roll

I love friday cause it's boat progress for the week. Fuel tank is in-some flooring-work stalled on the well so no roll over. Looks pretty good-I'm happy
