More Chinook Closures? - 2025 Summer

We got what we voted for. A minority government with a real opposition party. Now it is time for the opposition to prove that we all didn't make a mistake. I would like to see the MP for each of the ridings on island especially start making noise.
Where is the North Island MP? That is in his riding? What is the plan here?
This isn't like last time the government has no majority or NDP to back them up. It is though up to us to contact our MP on these issues.
It isn't the reconciliation or any of that. It's the closed door meetings and the government just trying to steamroll this in without proper consultation which is really unfair. There isn't just one user group here.
It seems government will do anything to get to yes with buying votes at expense of small business and the economy of our fisheries.

Yup, exactly SH. The word is "expropriation" - the word that Parks Canada whitewashes from all it's promotional literature. Really horrible history of Parks Canada doing just that across Canada - esp. out East where it started 1st. Wrong federal agency used to regulate fishing, and the wrong "go-to" tool in the toolbox. It's like using a hammer to finish drywall.

I had to deal with parks canada one time on a property I was trying to buy. There was an outbuilding that was encroached onto the neighboring lot ( parks ). It took alot of effort to talk to the higher ups in the parks department of the city of Delta. To see what the possibility was for selling me a sliver of land so that there was a legal setback from the outbuilding. Long story short, when I did finally talk to the head guy down at city hall, he basically told me there's only one way parks will ever give up property and that's if you trade them up somthing they really want. He said their whole agenda is to aquire land. In their eyes they want all the land. It's messed up. Never bought the property because of that.

Electing the same party (and people) expecting they will somehow change their values, views and policies is sort of silly IMO. There should be no surprises - its very predictable - we will see the excuse train fire up on why we don't need to invest in pipelines to create a Canadian energy policy. The past policy approach will be repeated - highly improbable a change in leader will result in a significant shift in policy performance and decisions that invest in making changes necessary for implementing a Canadian "only" oil and gas national policy.
More Saudi OPEC oil at the expense of Canadian jobs in Western Canada.
Meanwhile, more parks, more fishing closures will be our future.

I would say opening up Canada for natural resource sales! But they are liberals so we can expect a giant solar farm in northern bc. LolEconomy ???? Oh ya.... like opening up BC for more fish farms.

Well it is up to the official opposition MP to actual voice the concerns isn't it? So far I have heard nothing which is pretty typical like last time.

Talked to Aaron (Gunn) today. He is going to go see the minister next week and explain how deeply scenarios 3-5 would affect the coast and coastal economies.
If there’s one thing I know about him after working with him all election it’s he works damn hard and won’t shy away from standing up for people

The message might be better received coming from Patrick Weiler, MP for West Vancouver, Sunshine Coast, Sea to Sky Country as he is one of them. If he represents his constituents by supporting science-based fisheries management, we owe a nod to the SFI and the efforts of members like cohochinook.
Unfortunately, we have a fisheries minister from Newfoundland who will need to be open to information outside the Liberal echo chamber for any positive outcome to be realized.

It doesn't really matter where the minister is from. Look at Jonathan Wilkinson. He was completely useless.

I was suggesting that an MP on the same team might be better received in Ottawa. Jonathan Wilkinson was just a Liberal ideology yes-man with the personality of a dish rag. I’m just hopeful (naïve?) that Patrick Weiler has enough of a spine to represent his constituents.
