More Chinook Closures? - 2025 Summer

Thanks AA-- Seems like they have a bunch of credible individuals on their board. But are they part of the bigger organizations like SFACs , SFAB, SFI ? Just seems like they popped up without a clear mandate to work with the organizations that have been struggling for years to get the attention of DFO Ottawa. If I am wrong, sorry..... please inform me. Cheers Bryan

You know as much as I do Bryan - not much. Might be worth contacting them for more info...

I haven't encountered them at the SFAB Conference Board or SFI. They could be engaged at local SFAC level as their focus appears to be Port Renfrew from what I gather.

The solution isn't to make a bunch of random noise IMO, but rather to organize a professional delegation to Ottawa to present a sound and positive business case that sets out how the recreational fishery provides a clear benefit to Canada's economic response to this tariff crisis.

They attended the SFI conference and Big Splash last year and our connected to the Area 29 SFAC as I understand it they are very much about Port Renfrew SRKW and Cowichan Steelhead hatchery .

They also have been participating in Public Fishery Alliance meetings. They are doing some good work.

So, same Liberal Government and same Minister as before from the East Coast.

Agree the fisheries minister is new, and it really doesn't matter where the individual is from.

What does matter is why are they always people who have no fisheries or scientific background in such a high position?

Truthfully I was optimistic until a few days ago, but some troubling developments are just irritating again from fisheries perspective. I can't see how we are going to have progress here.

First off I am seeing a lot of time and effort by this government trying to get a majority by vote recounts to get a power grab. That feels like the old government. They even are trying to get NDP members to cross the floor if you can believe it.

Second I thought we said the cabinet would be different? Oh look the environmentalists are in high ranking positions again. Steven Guilbeault in high profile position in cabinet again? Are you crazy?

Was hopeful from things I’d heard and rumours and just common sense about the economy but after seeing ministers comments today on various files. This just seems like Trudeau 2.0 (as predicted). Just insane. How people fell for this bs act blows my mind.

Can you pass along the comments, I can't find them anywhere online. Would be interested to see what she said.

The Island generally did not fall for more of the same. We're just a small portion of the voting bloc. Unfortunate outcome, but at least we have representation in the house that may help increase awareness around the fishery and the data that supports it.

Yup and once a piece of land or in this case lala land, gets in the hand of parks canada its there forever. Carney is going to make sure it happens. 2030 is such a good plan. Soo goood
