I have noticed a couple things about the moon and tides.

Around Vancouver, it is always low tide at noon and midnight on a full moon, and on a new moon. This means you can count on an early morning high just after the full moon and new moon, and an afternoon flood which are best for fishing in my area.

Although the tide times are similar for a new moon and the full moon two weeks later, a difference between a full moon and the new moon is that when the moon is full, it comes up at night and disappears during the day, as opposed to around the new moon which is up more during the daylight, not so much during the dark.

Other trivia; the line on the moon moves from right to left. For example, it was a black new moon 5 days ago, so the right side of the moon has started getting white. That grows bigger until the 18th full moon, then a dark sliver appears on the right side. The dark sliver on the right side means it is past the full moon, which means the next afternoon will be a good afternoon flood for me. I don't usually get up for the morning high.

I almost always find fishing to be dead during about 5 days around a full moon.
