Marine gas rip-off in Courtenay

I've heard many times there are two indicators that dictate fuel prices: Supply and demand as well as what a market is able/willing to bear.

You can't protest any of the 'big 3', I agree with finaddict. Even going to an 'independent' operator, where do you think they buy their fuel from? The 'big 3' also buy bulk refined fuel from each other, especially in the event of refinery maintenance or shut down. They have us by the short curly's.

I was thinking more about the GST that is added to the price. The GST is added on to the total price including the other taxes, that is just another way you are getting screwed.

The point was that govt. did/do not get road tax etc on marked gas as it was not used on the roads which is the reason it is marked. If that is still the case then it is not a tax source for government but yet the price charged is now the same or higher which to me seems like profiteering by the oil corps at the expense of consumers using marked gas including boaters. They do not have to collect and remit the road tax, but they charge as if the do. Am I missing something?

Yep that is a "tax" tax. Its also taxation without representation. that is what brought on the american revolution ;-)

what about all the fuel that get's used in off road vehicles, lawnmowers, ride-on-lawnmowers, weedeaters, chainsaws, etc, etc, ... that people are paying the road tax unnecessarily for. convenient for the government to continue collecting that even though they shouldn't be. I'm sure they could think of a way for people to be able to exclude the tax for that but you know the government will never offer it or enable a convenient method...

Over the last two decades, the CRC has responded to the growing petroleum product sales of the CRS by more than tripling the number of barrels of crude oil that are processed each calendar day. New facilities have been, and will continue to be, added to ensure that the Co-op Refinery Complex produces adequate volumes of high-quality products and continues to fulfill its mission of service to the Co-operative Retailing System.

This may be true, but it's still not a protest per se. Yes as a member the profit share but the problem is to make a significant impact, it can't happen practically speaking. There aren't enough station locations and you probably need to drive a decent distance to get fuel. So, unless you buy bulk, it can be pointless.
