For reference i was in my DE 185 last spring g with my wife and teenage son. scheduled NW wind clashing with an outflow from Toba turned the entire inlet into a washing machine. no way i could get boat on plane. not happening. had to go home thru desolation which meant a direct clash with NW winds coming out of sutil channel. got the crap kicked out of us bad. real bad. pick your days and plan for the worst. don’t be afraid to take control and leave before it gets really hairyThe mouth of Toba can get really, really nasty, really, really quickly. 5 guys in that boat is already getting a little iffy, throw in some gnarly water and you’re really pushing it. Windy won’t give you a good indication of what’s going to happen in there. It doesn’t do well in the inlets. If you go, just be very cautious of any winds that pick up, it can change fast.
Forecast looks good for Francisco crossing on Saturday, nice calm day in the straight.
