Malcolm Island

fish the slide(between donogal head and lizard point) and the back side of malcolm at bere point and black bluff, anchovies, whole herring and hootchies that are glow/chartreuse in colour seem to work your fishing structure so shallow water( 30-80 feet) I worked as a part time guide and dockboy last year at sunds lodge. Typically fishing for springs starts to tail off about now but there will be lots of pinks, wild coho (must be released) and sox around so im sure you will get into some fish. For halis go to george bank and use spreader bars with herring.

best of luck

Because things are a little late this year, the springs are still around.

Picked up two and lost a couple more last Friday, a buddy boated three and lost 4 on Sun, so there is still some good #'s around. Bere Pt has been good for me, but Black Bluff and the slide have been good as well. One sleeper is Lady Ellen to Ledge Pt. on a flood.

The nets have been out since monday and will continue until Fri, so areas like "the Wall", Baronets and Double Bay have been wall to wall nets.

There is lots of socks around, but can be frustrating to fish as schools go by without a bite, then all of a sudden, the bite is one. Pinks galore, although they are starting to slow down. Coho are around, but not in any great #'s.

It is Fogust here, so the sun only comes out for a little bit in the afternoon, make sure you have a compass, GPS and charts as it is pea soup almost every morning.

Good luck and enjoy the scenery

Cheers

I'd of thought the springs would still be good for a few weeks unless the dynamics have changed up there in the last 7 years - my best trip was from aug 18-20 several years ago with spring limits (only in the low to mid 20's), but they were everywhere and I remember lots of throwback socks too! I do seem to recall the stupid coho fishing was near end of August though and when that was on, the springs didn't seem to be.

last year the peak for springs was middle to end of july and then they seemed to disappear for the last week of august as it was scratch fishing for springs but the coho were so thick it was ridiculous. Same goes for the pinks who would mess up your perfect chovie/herring roll at first light when you first drop the gear and have the best shot of getting into springs every year is different though i hear everything is a little late this year as wcvi is turning on right now
