Ok, so I am Sturgeon fishing today with my favorite tuna trolling rod - Seeker custom rod with a Accurate 870 Boss reel. We've fishing for couple hours with a bunch of shakers and almost but nice quite legals to our credit when...I cast over another line already soaking. In my attempt to prevent the crossover, mid-cast, I contort, point, and....drop the the whole thing into the river.
AGGGGHHHHHHH!!!! There goes $600.00 to the bottom. I thought I was going to have a stroke right there where I stood. My daughter and the neighbor boy dive for cover in anticipation of a complete meld down. Some how I manage not to un-cork a fit....but oh it burned so bad...my skin was crawling!!
After 5mins of deep breathing, meditation and comptemplation, I decide to rig a heavy cod jig and drag the river bottom in hopes of snagging the line/rod/anything (luckly for me I am lazy and hadn't off-loaded my bottom fishing tackle bag after my last outing). After 15mins of dreadging I snag the line - YESSSSSS!!!!! The rod appears from below and slowly comes to the boat. Inches from my grabbing it when, the birds nest finally releases and back into the deep she goes. 550yrds of braided line on the deck later, the rod finally re-surfaces. As I say little a prayer of thanks, one of the rods still soaking goes off proper!
Forget gently easing the rod out of the holder and timming a perfect hook set...oh no.... line is peeling off before I can put my hands to it. 35mins later and 3 beautiful surface crashing leaps, we release a nice 82in/210cm White Sturgeon to reproduce another day. Well...a guy can't really ask for more from the day than that so we pulled anchor and motored home.
Lucky, Lucky, Luck!!!
