Lithium Batteries? School Me , marine/boat applications!

Its just a 20hp outboard with a backup pull start so im planning to run this battery until it doesnt work anymore. the voltage drop killing the sounder is annoying though so im thinking just a separate source for the sounder.

of 9/26/2022, Mercury has issued Service Bulletin 2022-19 stating that the listed engines will be permitted to use a Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery that is designed for engine cranking, as long as it meets the listed specifications:

-2.1L 75-115hp Fourstroke, ProXS and SeaPro Models
-3.0L 150hp Fourstroke, ProXS and SeaPro
-4.6L V8 and 3.4L V6 175-300hp Fourstroke, ProXS, SeaPro and Verado Models
-2.6L L6 200-400 Pro and Verado Models
-7.6L V12 500-600hp SeaPro and Verado Models.
-NO other engines approved at this time.

Minimum Specs Required:

-Chemistry/Format: Lithium IRON Phosphate designed for MARINE CRANKING USE.
-Minimum Cranking Amps: 800A for 8 second minimum @ 20 Degrees F
-Peak Charge Acceptance: 165A at 20-130 degrees F for one minute
-Max Charge Alternator Size: 150A at 20-130 degrees F
-Max Charge Voltage/Alternator Output: 14.8V
-Reserve Capacity (RC25 @ 80F): 135 Minutes
-Ingress Protection (IP rating): IP67 or greater.

Cautions that use at temperatures below 32F may require additional equipment such as a battery heater.

Bulletin also lists a Relion Battery that has been evaluated and meets the above requirements: RB100-HP.

I have been thinking about this too.

I used to just use a Canadian Tire Nautical battery for everything, cars and boats. They lasted for years but the last couple I bought only last a year or so, less lead maybe.

This 140ah battery looks pretty good. I could see it replacing my house and starting battery and then just using my emergency starting pack as a back up.

Ouch! $629 US... I would still prefer SLA for cranking and a seperate house battery. Costo 24 or 27 series depending on engine size are a great option as well as 31 series as used in construction equipment are inexpensive and what I use for the windlass battery and the crank battery.
House battery I love Lifepo4 and built 690 ah for my boat but 100 ah batteries are getting pretty inexpensive. Charge off the crank battery with DC/DC converters and solar.

How long have you had them for? I'm leery of the Amazon batteries. But my new trailer came with one 12V interstate battery. My plan was to get two golf cart batteries but that's a good price for lithiums that is on par with what the golf cart batteries cost. I'll have to measure to see if I can fit two of them at the front of the trailer frame without too many modifications.

My plan was to get two golf cart batteries but that's a good price for lithiums that is on par with what the golf cart batteries cost. I'll have to measure to see if I can fit two of them at the front of the trailer frame without too many modifications.

One I’ve had for a year, I had two deep cycle and it performed as good as two. Most load I put on it is jacking the camper up, but I also added a renogy combo charger for both solar and direct from the truck alternator. That way I can run 25 amps directly from the uplifter switches for a fast charge. I added the second one for some longer time at Jordan River.

You can mount lithiums in any orientation if that helps. I have an Eco-Worthy in my trailer and it’s been fine for a year. Get one with bluetooth.

A single 100ah offers the same useable capacity as 2x6v 200ah golf cart batteries
