Late Aug: Quatsino, Kyuquot, Nootka, or Barkley?

I usually fish these areas earlier in the summer, and am unsure if the springs will have passed the retention areas in Quatsino or Kyuquot.. But I want to keep some white meat and I don't have much luck with white meat in Nootka or Barkley any longer..

Any thoughts on if there will be many springs running in Quatsino or Kyuquot in late Aug?

Quotsino can be hit or miss with Springs late aug (last 3 or 4 days?) depends on the year ,weather and rain. I go for the coho and while I usually get Springs-I see them as a nice bonus.--Can't comment on Kyuquot!

Caught springs to 28 at Hippa in Haida Gwaii late August last year. As far as I know, no local rivers they were bound for & they were bright. Studies show Oregon fish are caught in Northern BC. These fish hit the river mouths in southern Oregon in Oct-Nov. Had a Monster on at Wilf Rock (Tofino) Oct 15. Caught a mint bright 30# at Sekui mid-October.
Norm's Dad (Island West/Bayshore Marina) years ago told me the big one's come in October.
Caught Several large Springs at S/W corner in Ucluelet mid Sept. My favorite time to fish the rocks outta Ucluelet was Labour day.

First time I went to Bayshore at Ucluelet in 1986 Norm told me the Springs run strong April - October. Those days are gone; they seem to come in spurts these days.
Dave Murphy fishes Kyuquot til early Sept - I may go there then.

Funny; last 5 years or so Nootka has become the new Ucluelet - everybody goes there.

It all depends on your expectations - everywhere is hit-or-miss compared to 30 years ago; even Langara this year. The guides need to hook-up 20 fish or so to limit 4 customers, so if you know how to fish, how many do you need?

Kyuqout normally has a slot limit inshore as of july 15th, i haven't checked this year. also its normally very windy that time of year and offshore is the place to be if you're fishing from there.

Was in Kyuquot a few years ago on Labor Day and had great fishing. It was either the year before or the year after and a buddy who lives there said by the 3rd week of August pretty much all guiding was done save a few anglers but they were going crazy on big springs.

Quite often happens like that at quotsino(Winter Harbour) Most of the Guides are home by 1 sept and I believe fishyboy 99 Rob only stays open if he has large groups

Fished with Murphy's at kyuquot the last weekend of August couple of years ago. Still limited out on springs offshore and were dropping gear quickly so the plentiful pinks and cohos hanging around still could not get a chance to take the hoochies when we targeted the springs. I remember the inside was closed that time. Murphy's was locking up the resort for the season as we were leaving.
