This is an aerial shot flying over the north side of Union Island looking pretty much straight west of Kyuquot Village. Lookout is the furthest out....the small island and Spring is the larger one directly to the inside of it.

If you happen to check this before you go...another good spot is Kyuquot reef which is a couples miles outside to the 'west/southwest' of Spring Island. You will see it on your charts as it is a reef that runs sort of east west. Troll on the north side and follow the 160' contour line was where we focussed and we were also picking up hali's dragging the gear right on the bottom. We did very well out there as Spring Island was just loaded with coho....with a few springs mixed in. You can also get a fair bit of kelp in that channel between Spring and Lookout. If you head along the south side of spring island and troll in towards Union Island it tends to be a bit less 'dirty' in the water. Be careful as you get further in as there is a large rock spire that has claimed many, many cannonballs.

Gold/chrome flashers and teaser heads with chrome on them were the ticket for us. They were outfishing purple haze and other teasers 2-3 to 1. Purple/black/chrome...green/blue/chrome....gold/chrome all worked well.

We have a cabin booked from/arrive August 2 to Depart August 7 and would like another group to share it with us. The float cabin is located in a sheltered bay near the village of Kyuquot. It is deluxe and sleeps a total of 6 – 8 people comfortably, has 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, kitchen, living room, dining area, bbq, washer, dryer, fish cleaning station and large deck. It costs a total of $400/night for up to 6 people or $475/night for 8 people. There are 3 currently in my group and we have paid a deposit. Bedding and towels are provided. All you need to do is bring a boat, some fishing buddies, tackle, food and fuel. You will need to trailer your boat to Fair Harbour then boat to the cabin. We have been going here for 10 years and the fishing is always incredible and the cabin comfortable. The other thing to remember now is that you can't keep anything over 77cm inside the one mile surf line. So if I was up there I would be fishing the reef or the highway.

Caught two large springs, and one hali. I'd post the pics but can't figure out how! too complex.. Didn't have a scale, so I can't tell how big they are for sure.. but one was 35++ I'd say.. biggest I ever caught.

Green hootchie, green flasher, 41' leader, and the fish were from 40' to 150' down. Nothing was biting the anchovy.. my leader was 5 feet long. I heard the big salmon can get flasher-shy so maybe I should have lengthened the leader.

Lots of coho which we let go, all were wild. Tons of HUGE dogfish too when fishing for the hali.

Saw bears, and elk on the drive out, a humpback, dolphins. Weather was mixed with big swells, rain, but also some calm patches in the am.
