DFO announced today that the salmon fishing regulations for July 18th, the day of the Kiss My … Chinook Derby, will be under Zone 1 (low abundance) management measures.
If you are in the derby please be aware that the entire derby fishing area (Cadboro Point to Jordan River) is under one set of regulations. Those regulations are:
The daily limit is two (2) chinook, which must be:
either wild or hatchery-marked if between 45 and 85 cm,
or hatchery marked if greater than 85 cm.
Please remember you are only allowed to weigh in one fish to the derby and the biggest salmon will win the prize. No wild Chinook greater than 85 cms will be accepted. Hatchery fish are distinguishable by the adipose fin being clipped and showing a healed scar where the fin should be.
Good luck, tight lines, screaming reels and please be safe on the water
