It would be great to have both James Bay and Cattle Point ramps more usable in all weather, and by larger boats-- as it is there are no ramps with finger floats between Esquimalt Anglers and Sidney.
The James Bay site is currently well-suited to small boats and kayaks in fair weather. Unless the lack of parking can be addressed [eg. on adjacent GVHA land], there's a limit to the volume it could handle if improvements are made. The ramp would be much more usable if two things are done:
1. Install a finger float [or one on each side] for securing boats when launching and retrieving - this might need to be seasonal unless #2 is effective. Note that Mercury Marine had a ramp and float very close by for many years. Port Renfrew is an example of seasonal floats.
2. Install boom logs offshore to break up the waves that can make the ramp challenging to use. This might involve both GVHA and Coast Guard cooperation, depending on what was done.
