Hear there is a bait shortage...
Where would the best place to start looking for Chovie after Duke Pt ferry?

I called all over lower mainland and slim pickins if you can find it all.

Not Wholesale Sports for anchovies. Other stuff was fine, but all they had for anchovies were loose in the bag, chubby, broken off tails all different sizes in one bag. Worked for one trip down the rigger then fell apart. Dry salted, they still lost their scales and burst open. The Esso with the McDonalds in Campbell River had lots 10 days ago. Where are you going? Alder Bay had lots too. You won't need them offshore from Ukee.

Fellow that I work with and I both bought North King 6" Anchovies in Nanaimo. They looked good and were vacumn packed and at $8.50 a package we thought that they'd be pretty good stuff.I haven't tried them but he has and was dissapointed with them. They did't brine up very well and therefore didn't last very long.I'd sure like to find some 6" Rhys Davies anchovies but haven't been able to get any around here.

Can't seem to find anything over 4" in Victoria. I think Baitrix is going to have a banner year in sales this year

those loose packed broke tail chovies i tried this weekend, still outfished baitrix 3:1 for various species i picked up on the troll. they were weird, some ripped apart and were destroeyd in 15minutes off the rigger, while others brined up great and lasted for as long as i wanted them down.

Sure glad I bet my 6" Rhys Davis bait early every year. Still have 3 of 4 cases left, and lots of 6 to 7 inch and extra large herring I dipped last fall.

Pedder Bay now has a good supply of Rhys Davis 5 1\2 in anchovies on had. It sounds like they'll have them for a while as they're limiting customers to 3 packs per purchase.

Get 'em while they last....

Gooey.

Don't even use the stuff on the West Side except for hali's. Simply don't need to these days. Hooked ~ 40 springs just a couple days back - all on plugs and spoons. Good enough for me! [}:)]

Cheers,

Me too but then my wife woke me up as I kept setting the hook in my sleep and elbowing her in the face.

I'd rather be woken up than post on sportfishingbc while sleep walking.....

Yeah, If there's chovies involved in the meeting I wouldn't mind getting in on that action. Let me know I could hook up anytime. Thanks

... Are fishermen all liars?
Or do only liars fish?

Nothing around the Cowichan Valley or C River as far as I can tell. It is bone dry. Rhys Davies must be dying a slow death if they miss their prime selling season with no inventory.
