Is it to late to sit down for a chin - wag???

If the user groups could work together on developing a sustainable fishery, i would be
all for it.
I would however, be very much opposed to further restrictions to the sport fishery
unless all groups are abiding by the regulations.
No fishing, means no fishing ! Nets and spears included.

All good on paper but we still can't forget about the forked tounge of Mr Crey.... Anything is possible I guess.
At least he is trying work with other groups

Interesting isn't it,when everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon when it's almost to late...

The net fishery on the Fraser is in full swing ,late June start my butt, they also put forward a letter to DFO 2 days ago that they will be increasing there take 0f 17 % on the 4-1 stock, forked tounge is right!!

The second article is the one that scares me the most, hambone. I recently talked to a FN friend of mine that belongs
to the Cowichan Tribe. He had been waiting for the go ahead from the elders. I geuss he got it,because he just
bought himself a 38ft. ex commercial troller. Acording to him, the band is buying him 50 prawn traps,50 crab traps, and outfiting the boat for these fisheries. He also has a market for live rock cod to the Chinese resturaunts in Victoria. Meenwhile
he can fish 12 months a year, with no closures, such as rockfish conservation areas, and no yearly quotas or daily limits
to adhear to.And this is only one guy!! This to me is f@#%ing BS!! They have given them far too much power, and
basically put them "above" the law.

F.N.'s are the law now for the fishery - the Supreme Court just said so by doing nothing! Not to worry - there is a well documented history of failed business ventures for Cowichan.

However, many tribes are much more entrepreneurial and successful. We need to get ahead of this change with some aggressive and very public moves toward promoting and commiting to conservation, taking the moral high ground. A good idea today is much better than a great idea tomorrow. We need to get behind Profisher's initiative asap - it's a good idea.

Yep I suspect that's a simular program to the one that the FN boys at Cheanuh signed on to - the exception is they want to target Halibut, crab & ??.Seems like the cards were stacked against us from the get go!Foxsea brings another spin to the table...perhaps he's also trying to persuade us into holstering our rods and taking up a more treehugger like stance?

Ah, Sammy man - I guess you got me nailed!
Long time Cowichan boy, worked in the bush and at Youbou sawmill in the later 60's, fished and hunted my whole life. Been called many things but now a "treehugger". Man- that's just plain mean and hurtful. Totally uncalled for! (hope you're laughing your butt off, cause I am.)

I'll never holster my old Fenwick rod although the tiny, pink, light action one doesn't get out much any more. (Just thinking humour always goes further than hostility.)
As as the fish go, there are always fish somewhere. Keep moving north, boys. Not too many problems, so far, except for vacuum bags and freezer space. Might spend this summer at Winter Harbour and Hardy. Nootka and Bajo were good. Ah, the pleasures to be had in Tahsis! Who was the genius that named Head Bay?

Hey Foxsea LOL - I'm not trying to paint you with a different brush.. I'm serious to a point..Homour is the best remedy for what ever ails you!..sometimes you have to put it out there to get a real response...

Haha! Yeah, Sammy - like stir it up a bit? I can dig it.
Some great characters hang here - authentic, like the world used to be - before yogurt and granola.
