Inline versus False flashers?

The last couple of years I've had pretty good success with inline Hotspot flashers and Coyote spoons. However, I've often wondered if maybe switching to false flashers might result is more fun playing the fish and much less effort when checking the lines.

Can anybody that is using false flashers provide some insight on the pros and cons?

Pro: the advantages you mention ..IF the lure has it's own action

Con: lure must be fished fairly close to flasher, fish may dive after hooking and catch in flasher (had this happen in Barkley), also your crew needs to get those flashers in boat when clearing gear for big fish.

Try it :)

I suppose there are a couple of other options as well:

- go to smaller hotspot flashers. Would the 8" really be that much less effective at attracting salmon than the 11" if you're using a lure that has its own action? It would certainly create less drag?

- try out one of those inline flashers like the konezone that I keep seeing in magazine ads. Anybody try one?

I used an inline Konezone last year while fishing sox in the Canal. I only had one to use, but I did catch some while using it as a false flasher. I see some serious potential for using them while running anchovies in teaser heads. I'll be up there in 2 weeks and am planning to give it a try.

I used the konezone at the mouth of the Columbia. It caused terrible line twist even with ball bearing swivels. Wouldn't use them again.

I've used "Farr better flashers" for a few years now & wouldn't use anything else. I for sure use them when the bite is hot. There's no question from my experience the fish fight harder & longer & with a knucklebuster it makes for great fun. Yes there is a learning curve to using them. I do fish with down riggers & don't stack etc. No, I haven't experienced tangles, twisting that others say they've had. One drawn back (if you can call this one) Last year late in the season I was fishing for large & late northern Coho at kitimat. Had our limit so caught & released. With a release flasher the coho cut themselves up severly from twisting the line around their nose whereas with an inline I've found they don't seem to as bad. Fact is I won't catch & release anymore because its just plain dumb. Two years ago when my brother & I yarded in that seal we were using one.I kinda think an inline might have broke. WaHoooo!

That's what I like to use-just as effective IMO.
