just got back from a week long hunt, chasing elk around mcnabb creek.

found a herd at the end of a valley 600m above us, took 3 hrs to get above and around them to get into a shooting position.
a single shot put him down quickly. 3 incredibly wet, steep, hard days later we had the meat packed out.

my first elk, a 7x6

and i recovered my first barnes tsx bullet in 5 years

entered at his left side, rearmost rib and came to rest against his spine at his neck

beauty!, sounds like you earned it!

thought about mounting the head but the cost was a deciding factor, going to boil it tomorrow and euro mount instead.

not married, but the girlfriend understands my passion

by the time we got back to the cabin on the third day we had packed out an estimated 600 lbs of meat, organs, and rack.. a part of me wishes i was able to save the hide, but it would have involved another 10 hr day packing it out. it just wasnt going to happen.

yup a pretty good week IMO
