Anyone know if there is a herring sale this year in Victoria? It is usually in January.

Fishery Notice - Fisheries and Oceans Canada

Subject: FN0003-COMMERCIAL - Herring - 2021/2022 Herring Food and Bait Fishing Plan - January 4, 2022

The 2021/2022 Pacific Herring Commercial Fishing Plan for the Food and Bait fishery was circulated for review from October 15 to November 14, 2021. Thank you to those that submitted advice and recommendations for the plan during this period, the plan has now been finalized and the approved commercial plan can be found here: href="https://www.dropbox.com/s/aw94um5gz7bdm89/APPROVED 2021_2022 Food & Bait Fishing Plan.pdf?dl=0">https://www.dropbox.com/s/aw94um5gz7bdm89/APPROVED 2021_2022 Food & Bait Fishing Plan.pdf?dl=0
As a result of a lower harvest rate proposed for Strait of Georgia herring fisheries in 2021/2022, the initial quota for the Food and Bait is 50 short tons in the Strait of Georgia (SOG). At the request of the Herring Industry Advisory Board (HIAB), the 50 tons will be assigned to a single designated ZM licence to support the “Fishermen Helping Kids with Cancer” and “Autism Community Training” charities.

The 50 short ton overall initial allocation may be adjusted in-season based on request from HIAB. Such requests are considered by the Department and are subject to an equal decrease in the resulting roe herring seine TAC such that all allocations are accounted for within the final TAC for the Strait of Georgia. If the overall Food and Bait allocation is increased in-season, each ZM (Food and Bait) licence will be assigned an equal share of the quota.

Roe seine licence (HS) holders will have the option to select to fish their roe herring quota in the SOG Food and Bait fishery or have the quota share remain in the Roe Seine fishery. The SOG Roe Seine fishery allocation will be reduced by the same amount that the Food and Bait allocation is increased. Details of the selection process will be provided in a subsequent Fishery Notice.
