help with picking out new rod for 7000 abu reel

Picked up a 7000 abu reel combo with that came with the 8ft amabssuer rod went out trolling for a abit as well as casting for Lakers and rainbows only to realize that the rod was to stiff to even notice a bite any suggestions on what would be a good all around rod for that as well as wanting to get into salmon fishing this summer so what would be a good length and action rod for that thank you

A 9 ft light ugly stick is a nice well priced rod.
