Heading down to the Mayan Riviera

heading down to Puerto aventuras in a week. nice big marina with lots of charters and boats to choose from. we are about 10k south of playa de carman. operators advertise that they have people that come down from cancun and up from Tulum. we have a tentative booking and will confirm day and price once we get there

Good luck Bruce! Hope you guys have as successful a trip as you did in cabo last year:)

Look up Roberto Navarro on YouTube he is out of Playa Del Carmen. Depends on the experience you want I guess, if you looking for a huge expensive boat his rig may not be for you (his is an open style whaler I guess). At that time of year the fishing is excellent. The vids on YouTube might just show mostly jigging but in March there is a lot of Mahi and white/blue marlin around plus wahoo and tuna so we trolled most of the day. His rig is super affordable ($280 USD last April for 4!)and he is an excellent guide. If you go jigging with him he may charge a bit extra for the jigs. Likes to talk a ton about fish politics/conservation down there as well which was very interesting. I will get him every time I'm down there without question. Tony his deck hand is excellent as well.

I have stayed at the grand bahia a few times, always took the panga charter right from the resort. 150$ for 4 hrs, a few small 'cudas and bonitos. Shore casting was not productive. Great resort. Lots to do

Ive been in puerto morellos for two weeks. Fishing hasnt crossed my mind, too busy drinking beers and sitting on the beach.

I walked the beach this morning and counted 8 boats on the horizon so Im guessong they were charter boats from Cancun. I walked into town and passed the marona and all the charter boats were in tied up so not to many people sport fishing this time of year. Most of the charter boats are bigger sport fishing boats.

WOW!!!!

Thanks for all the replies!!!

I am still in the planning stage, but I am taking a couple pack rods/reels and some chrome, 50/50 and brass crocs and Len Thompsons spoons to try off the beach.

Fishing supposed to be good to excellent for most species, just not sure if I want to a shallow water or deep sea fish.

Plus where we are staying, it is off the beaten path, so I will need to find a cab/ride to get to where I want to go. Can you get cabs at 6 in the morning??

Cheers

A few years back I fished up the coast (puerto morelos) trolling was slow;reef fishing was hot for mero. We were also there in April; fished off a panga, U$250/4hrs.

I talked to a buddy who just got back from Tulum; however I believe he fished S Belize (Placencia)
