Heading down to the Mayan Riviera end of March/early April, staying at the Grand Sunset Princess for my wife's cousins wedding. Rules are one day with her family, the rest for us.

One day I am going fishing and we want to spend a couple days doing non-tourist things.

So my questions are;

- Anybody done any fishing in the area?? I have done the Google thing and found lots info, now looking for real life experiences. Recommend any guides etc??
- Anybody recommend any things to do that are off the tourist trails?? Places to go see and enjoy??
- anything to add about the area??

I will also search on here for more info as well.

Thanks

Cheers

It was good but not that good! Released some marlin kept a couple nice sized dorado. Got sealed 3 times mooching macs.

Check out Mamosa's Marina north of Playa Del Carmen, there is plenty of guides working the dock and the fishing was excellent there. The closer to June you get the better chance of hooking up with sailfish and marlin. Our trip a few weeks ago landed us Amberjack's up to 30 lbs, lots of fight but we used heavy gear and very stout rods. Expect to pay about $600 for a 4 hour trip, try to avoid being paired up with another party, lots of people turn green down there from to much tequila and no experience out in deep water. Have a good time and take lots of picks!!

So Curtis I'm staying at Mayan Riveria how far is this from there? Thanks for any info.

Which resort are you staying at? I stayed at Iberostar Paraiso Maya in the Mayan Riveria and it was about a 20 minute drive south.

Gran Bahia Principe tulum that's where we're staying I have no idea where this is in regards to getting a fishing charter. It's my sons wedding so I would like to book a day on the water for 6 of us kinda of a little party slash fishing trip.

That's where we were thinking of going but can't afford it this year. Punta Allen is not too far South of there. It is a fishing destination.

heading down to Puerto aventuras in a week. nice big marina with lots of charters and boats to choose from. we are about 10k south of playa de carman. operators advertise that they have people that come down from cancun and up from Tulum. we have a tentative booking and will confirm day and price once we get there

My family and a bunch of friends went to puerto aventuras two years ago its like a gated community with a check point in and out we stayed at an all inclusive this town was awesome we went fishing with wasabi loco charters and had a blast crew was awesome i didn't fish with anyone else there so I have no comparison I do know we had 5 lines in the water less than ten minutes out of the marina so these guys don't waste anytime and big fish are taken a lot that close to departure I think that the fishing might not be so good in feb/mar though check their website and there is a chart for hot times for fishing good luck!
