On the topic of white springs does anybody catch them during the winter? I have not gotten any around victoria or sooke but a few weekends ago I got one that was very pale more the color of a pink than a winter spring. It was also a wild while the other 3 we got were smaller hatcheries and had nice red flesh. I was wondering if that could have been a white in the making? If nobody catches them in the winter where do they go? Are they born white or is it something that develops over time?

We got a winter white @ Kitty a couple weeks ago.

Seems to me back in the late seventies we used to get large springs off bates and in seal bay around and after the 24th may long weekend. They would hang around after large herring and we always said they were Stuart Island fish. That run is still there but of course much reduced numbers. Ment to add that a hi percentage were Whites.
