Guys ... weight on the short side and bait on the long side or vice versa?

you would get nicely tangled if you put the weight on the long side

That was my thought too. Thanks for the tip ... short side it is.

A breakfast debate this AM amongst some fishermen in my house.

I am not that good at it but I like a light leader maybe 2 feet to the ball or pencil weight and lighter that the mainline the the hooks saves gear in rocky areas.

heavy stiff leader/hook to the long side; at least 100lb test. Lighter leader than your mainline/sinker to the short side. They make square sinkers that do not roll around when you are running.
