Halibut Poll # 2

This is just crap and this person has no ideal what he is talking about.
This has absolutely nothing to do with conservation, it has to do with allocation.

nothing to do with conservation, if it had nothing to do with conservation then why is there any restriction at all? If it weren't for conservation efforts this thread wouldn't have been started and you wouldn't be here reading this, you'd be too busy unloading freezer burnt fish out of your freezer and filling it with your freshly hoarded catch woudn't you?

Until the 270,000 anglers learn to count and report it is definitely a conservation issue. 10lbs each 2.7 million.. With the number of unrestricted, unmonitored participants the rec sector has the ability to decimate stocks.

as for the polls good job fd on being proactive.

Good to see your back again sh*t4all...flogging the dead horse again I see..... :)

The responsibility is to DFO not anglers.
That is why DFO forced the commercial fleet to do what is is now required, not because they said they wanted to.
Again this is about quota and it appears that the sports anglers will need to become political and ensure they are given the correct share.

Dear Mr.Craven

yes you're off base. I am the one during guide meetings highlighting proper fishing etiiquette. I guide for a few weeks a year, so yes I am a hired gun but fishing for a few weeks doesn't provide me a living. And as far as greedy goes, I know all too well what happens out there so I dare anyone to deny it. My line of work provides boaters a lifeline when in need, and a voice for everything that lives in the sea.
Wow,what is it you do? Not trying to be sarcastic, just curious as to what line of work "provides a lifeline to boaters when in need, and a voice for everything that lives in the sea".

What idiotic comments! Go and hide in shame and learn before you speak. Let the adults speak.

the halibut fishery has been brought back from critically low levels in years long past; fished to very low levels by only a few commercial fishermen; iphc was formed and govtments established limits; unless they continue to do so it soon be at same low levels as in past; 300 thousand sportfishermen fighting over catch levels willnot solve this issue; its a conservation thing not allocation as some folks think;

Yeah, same for you.

Please start a new thread about conservation.
This is not the right thread.
We are trying to shape the recreational rules for the 2013 halibut season.
I have my own thoughts on conservation and would be happy to express them on another thread.
Until then get out of here if you can't stay on topic.

ya great there zigzag, way to impress us with your smarts.
If that's aimed at me drpower, then way to impress us with your lack of smarts not to mention maturity. I asked a simple question "what is the line of work you're in",clearly that offends you? Excuse me was I supposed to know you're really King Neptune?

Start a new thread as some of us would like to move forward not sling mud.

Saw this quote the other day...
Seems fitting

As one Port Hardy business owner put it
“the economy is a wholly owned subsidiary of the environment – if the ocean dies we die.”

So I didn't hear any objections to 4 is the new 5.
So based on that (4) is this acceptable to you average angler.
For me I didn't keep 4 this year (don't laugh) so not sure if we would reduce our TAC based on my ability.
GLG

I think 4 is acceptable. I only kept 1 this year and have never killed 4 in a season. I don't need that much Halibut neither should anyone else.
