S_D thanks for the response, have been off the site for awhile and just wanted a quick, simple update, u gave me that. To be honest I don't care if I ever catch a huge Hali, too much work for me, but I do appreciate a longer season so that i can catch a few to enjoy during the winter. I know that there is a lot more at stake here, but as Hourston wrote, it is (right now) what it is... lol. It could be worse. Thanks again. I retire soon so will get more time to spend on the ocean and better educate myself, lol! WOOPEE!

Not back yet TigerPrawn is doing a great job , it looks brand new.. He is going to launch it one day and check everthing out on the water also. I am too busy with stuff around the house. I will have it in the water around the end of April for Prawning and the Port Sidney Derby. Oh ya and the first Halibut trips start April 7th

Pretty much J-dub... You got the Varnished boat wet yet? ;)

are you saying halibut were endangered until last years slot and now there's more fish? and no it doesn't apply for commercial or fn fishing.

All good Trev, we can have balloon races on all gut hooked fish, burried to the spreader over 60 lbs so we can track when they belly up! Then its salvage rights!

Time will tell...

So you are saying that you can't keep any before that time, please explain.

My clients get the fish mostly during the summer. Sept is when i get to funfish for the freezer. I assumed that was obvious

Agreed. But that is not thier mandate. As i have said, as much as we want to blame the SFAB and the folks behind it, its just not right. The continued focus on that is not helping. We need to move on. In the end not thier fault. This is 100% the DFO. Its a broken process and those poor guys take the fall. Thats the whole point. Its all lip service. The DFO like to make you think you have a say, and what you say matters, but it doesnt. DFO has an idea of what they want. They force the SFAB into a corner and say here yah go. Choose. SFAB is forced to make a decision and boom, take the fall. And all then everyone wants to light the SFAB's homes on fire, and the DFO comes out smelling like roses. IF you want to do something start calling and emailing those numbers and tell them how you feel.

For me personally, any halibut is getting killed to my family is fed. About 100 lbs. If it comes in one fish, then so be it.

I hope you get busted if it's over the mark

Maybe get a lotto ticket too if you see DFO, been a few years since i have seen them around.

Perhaps you could trade up your 100# fish for a few smaller from a longline boat if its gut choked. Perhaps it could be a "I just got butt @$&@$$ transfer? Recorded on license?

Sad part is that we will likely see these restrictions in place now for good.
It wouldn't be so bad if the playing field was equal and all sectors had to abide.
Its the rec guys that get screwed every time.

Why not use circle hooks so they are not gut choked.

I am one of the ones who does use 16/0 circles and unfortunately they still get it deep enough we cant get the hook until its under the knife sometimes. Id would say 1 in 3 on fish over 50. Now that were after baby fish 14/0 circle is only going to be worse.

Your kinda late standing up and saying enough is enough. Fishtofino has been standing up within the confines of the law for years. You've been content to let him and others do all the work until it now and sat on the couch with your feet up. Don't feel sorry for you bud.

Any way, enjoy your Quota F4A. I might have to put some LL action vids up on here to show what really happens, maybe some live tank shots full of Snapper between sets too. So conservative we are eh! I know both sides, get it, but we sporties just got the gaff.

Im going to shut up and fish, I've dribbled enough, see u guys on the pond! Out!

Never said you were asking for a handout...but you are blasting an individual and a portion of the rec sector that are often front line in the fight with DFO and unless you are involved as well you are out of line with your rant.

I'm not a guide or a lodge. I am not asking for anyone to feel sorry for me or asking for handout.

How many login ID's do you have ? By my count you are up to 4....
Don't you find it hard to juggle that many without tripping up?
Oh yea you did trip up on the thread "minutes from SFAB main board" where I called you out.
Good thing you deleted that post before others noticed also.
I don't know who you are but I'll find out.....

For the record I don't think it is a recently banned member as I know him and he has assured me it's not him.
He has given me his word that his IP address is blocked and can't post even if he wanted to.
Good enough.....

BTW, which group is very good at catching trophy sized fish of all species on a consistent basis? Guides. So who does this size slot on the larger fish effect the most? Guides! They are the ones who will have to adapt and change this year the most. For the average guy, most have never caught a halibut over 60 pounds. So realistically how much will their season change? I sincerely feel sorry for the few average rec guys who will have their "Trophy" halibut up to the boat this year and will have to let it go. Then there is the other rec guy, not a guide but could be. He is out there every time I'm working and catches fish for fish with me and the other guides. Where does all that fish go?
