Hagfish slime - how to clean off mesh.

I was prawning in Port Alice a few years ago. I had never seen a hagfish. I pulled my first set of bauer traps got them into my 16ft tinny and all of a sudden I've got these "snakes" crawling around at my feet. I start grabbing them and flinging over board. My traps and the floor of the boat were slimmed up so bad I couldn't stand up. It took me forever to de-slime everything.

i use fresh water right away.. seems to work ok.

My bro was walking the beach at salmon beach several years ago.All of a sudden a balded eagle fell from the sky at his feet.the bird hopped to a log and he could see the slim in the birds beek.Bro took of his coat and the eagle allowed him to wrap the coat around and pick it up.Bro then pulled a hag fish from the birds throught .he took the bird home to the old caretaker building and cleaned the bird up and started to feed the bird.He called someone simulare to M.A.R.S and no one came for the bird.after a week living with 2 people ,1 bull mastiff,2 terriors,5 cats all in a 600sf cabin the bird was strong enough to fly and released .The eagle flew across the road into the fencing around the tennis court and fell in a heep.Another week in the cabin for the eagle.the eagle was then released and for a month hung aroud the tree at the cabin.

Thinking that an ounce of prevention beats a pound of cure, I've been keeping away from bottoms that were anything but steep.
8 traps, 10 sets, ONE eel. Location, location, location.
Now to get away from the squat lobsters!

I take my traps to the car wash at the same time I give my boat a rinse. Pressure washing gets the slime off.

careful with that pressure washer. a good hosing works., I lent my traps to a friend once, once!, traps came back with no slime but the pressure washer stretched all the mesh, sagged it right out. as we all know, loose mesh does not catch prawns. tighten said mesh and the holes get too big. thanks friend.

I tried prawning for the first time this year, I had 2/4 traps with a slime eel. I tried washing it off after it had dried with little success. There was a few people who responded with some tips to try to avoid them. I might have to try vinegar. They slime out of defence, so when I do catch one I try to get it out quickly

I'm heading to the cabin on the 16th of Feb to open her up. We plan on prawning the week that we are there. The area that is open is know to have these slimy buggers so I have already bought a new bottle of white vinegar and I will be picking up a new spray bottle between now and then.
