Well guys, I live on the North end of Saltspring and I usaually get out on the water at least twice a week. So i figure i'll try and keep everyone up dated with what i see.

Salmon: My friend landed a 12 pound spring at porlier on sunday. 165' on a anchovy

Herring: Still haven't seen any yet

Prawns: 2 weeks ago, set 2 traps, haul 273 prawns in 3 hours, 280' outside galiano island.

Bottom fish: Nice 30 pound ling released Saturday drifting through the pass. Lots of kelp greenlings off marker in the middle of porlier.

Later guys.

Thanks for the post! But will ya still be here in the morning? (April through Sept).

Some like it rough...
Others just puke!.

Mr. Dean

Thanks ss fisher,If i get to active pass i'll post it, ma be Thurs. Heard anything? contingent on Weather.i launch out of Blaine .

thanks the runt

Great thanks! my boats going in next week :D Where do you set your traps off of galiano?

To fish or not to fish,
What a stupid question!
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish, and he will sit on a boat drinking beer for a life time :D

I haven't heard of anything in Active,

I set my traps about half way between porlier and the RCA on the outside of galiano. That whole area out there is good, as long as its the right depth you should get em'

Last saturday a friend set his traps on the Vancouver island side of tent island and hualed 20 lbs of prawns in 6 hours with 6 traps. About 280' deep.

Stopped by the Gorge in victoria to try for herring tonight, nothing much there, a couple of guys got one or two but nothing substancial.

Tried heading outside porlier pass Saturday, but it was too windy, stopped off inside the pass and picked up 2 nice rockcod. Headed to Kuper island and set the prawn traps (280') for 1 hour, picked up 30 prawns, came back 3 hours later, and only 20 prawns. I suspect someone pulled them because one trap was closed differently the second time. I heard of someone getting 5 springs last week outside porlier.

Also spoke to one guy who picked up their limit on Sat. the 18th and to another party who got their limit on Thur. the 24th outside of Porlier. Sounded so good we went out on Sun. the 26th but couldn't even get a bite. Both partys indicated that they were fishing at 150 or 155 ft. Anyone else heard anything or had success?

Ill let you know this saturday or sunday ;) any1 else going to be out there this weekend? Ill try for some bottom fish in the pass aswell...first outing this year is right around the corner :D:D:D <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> if the weathers not too nice ill do tent though

SSfisher, during your travels through porlier, have you ever noticed if the old docks are still in the bay on galiano.Used to be a ling fishery .think its called Lighthouse bay.Was a old grocery store there years ago.Makes a good overnighter spot if a guy wants to do a weekend in the area.

Yah, the dock is still there, not much else though. My dad sold lingcod there back in the day, i stopped by there with him a few years ago and it was abandoned looking.

Cool.I grew up on the south end of Galiano.Used to go up to Porlier with my grandparents to get ling. The guy there would give them the green meat for free.Geuss it has no commercial value.I remember going in the store.Rickety old wood stairs.Long narrow driveway.Memories.

Headed out for dinner fish today, we got 2 nice 3 pound rockcod in about 5 minutes on a sandy bottom about 75' deep. After cleaning them i noticed a huge stomach full of dungeness crabs, about 2 inches across the shell, inside them. I guess they wandered away from the rocks to eat crab. I have also caught them on sandy bottoms with clam necks in there stomachs. Any one else every run into them in unusual spots?

not so much in rock cod but I've found some things in ling cod.Like some unidentifable fish and in a 33# ling from active pass ,I found a HUGE octopus.Would have been cool to see that battle.
