Grinder Question

We've been using one of Cabelas' meat grinders for a few years now. It finally calved (after God Only Knows how many critters it ran through!). Damn Good Thing my Buddy had one we could borrow (same model) to keep on trucking with this year's sausage runs! With 250 pounds done, we're only now approaching the 1/2 way mark...

My neighbor is wandering stateside in a couple of days, and has offered to pick up a new grinder for us while down there (obviously NO One goes near a Cabelas without wandering in

).

Had a look online, and kind of like what i see in this 500 watt unit: http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Pro-Series-Grinder/1387522.uts?

Looks like it can probably handle what we deal with, has pretty decent reviews, and that price is hard to argue with.

Kind of a reach I guess, but we're wondering if anyone here might have some experience with this particular unit?
Be nice to have some feed back before taking the plunge...

I hear what you are saying Jerry. But it's that time of year again and EI ain't going to cover the costs associated with the over-powered 600 dollar machine I have my sights set on. Will have to wait until the coin starts flowing again, but eventually will be doing so...

In the mean time, this looks to be an adequate Instant Answer, and the price is achievable on a Fishing Bum's allowance...

Just got the 2013 Cabelas clearance flyer today. There is a pro 450 grinder with 3 plates and 2 stuffing tubes $189 on sale for $119. With reverse. Thought about ordering one today.

That is the same unit we have been using for 4 years. Ran ~ 3,000 pounds of product through it with nary a hiccup. Finally gave up the ghost just a short time ago, but kind of expected that - it really isn't designed for the type of Heavy labor we forced it to endure. But, does speak volumes for what they are capable of. For anyone running but a couple hundred pounds a year, it would likely last a lifetime methinks...

The one I noted above is in sale for $ 169.00, down from $ 229.00. Seems to be a step up, and will likely suffice for the balance of this season methinks...

I have been in the market for a grinder as well. This one from Homehardware seems like a great deal. 800 watt ( 1 hp ) with reverse, 3 grinding plates and stuffer for $159.00. The gears are plastic so not sure how durable it would be for heavy use over the long term. I grind less than 100 pounds per year, so I will take a chance on it. Plus the store is local if you need support.

I was lucky enough to find a industrial hobart mixer with the meat grinder so i have a dual function machine I make home made bread and grind meat ...... 250 bucks used Vic AWESOME
