I fished the Great Lakes for Salmon back in the late 80’s up until 1992. It a solid fishery mostly supported by the US side hatcheries. Salmon were are plentiful and the derby winner is normally around 35lbs . Having fished the PNW and the Great Lakes I can tell you that the fresh water Great Lakes salmon are not nearly the strong fighting fish like you get here. They have no predators chasing them a 30lb fish there fights like a 20 here.Easy fishing due to lack of currents, tides , gelp . Weather conditions change quickly on hot summer days on the Great Lakes so that was always a factor.Great fishing for Chinook, Coho, Atlantic , big rainbows up to 25lbs, lake trout. Awesome derby prizes as well .
