gas prices

How many liters of fuel does your rig use to run out for 10 miles, troll for 5 hours and run back in for 10 miles. This would be a "normal" trip for me. At $1.30/liter my little Whaler and Honda 15 will cost me about $26.00. Anyone with twin outboards ready to swap?

my last boat(just in the middle of upgrading) cost me about 20ltrs out & back on big motor and about 7 ltrs on kicker for about 6-8hrs
so still under $50 with launch fee and bait, not a bad day out if you ask me, now throw in beer , welll i need a new banker[:p]

i dont even want to calculate how much im spending on gas. 1/2 hour @ full throttle with full boat take $25 then theres the truck...[xx(]

Last year I started defineing straight line waypoint(s) to get me most of the places I go on a regular basis and using them to NAV-TO using GPS. Now I GPS Navigate everywhere I go to ensure I'm going the shortest distance and using the least amount of gas possible....

Sad state of affairs when I've been reduced to this :(

But I'm REALLY good with a GPS now [8D]

Anyone car to lay odds on us NOT seeing marine gas go over $1.40 this summer even with commercial discounts [V]

A 6 mile run to Constance each way from Oakbay and 4 hours of trolling burns about 1/2 a tank, so about $12.00.
50 hp honda 4 stroke is very good on gas :D

My geuss would be about $100. depending on how fast I wanted to get there. could go as high as $150

New ford f-350 4by4 with gas engine, two boats, boat fuel and mix well the cost for the days on the water priceless. Fishing makes golfing look cheap but how many golfers have that picture of that great fish you caught or the memories of a summers day on the water. Sounds like a bad mastercard ad but way too true. Fuel prices stink right now but how many of us will fish less because of it? If I figured out how much it cost me per lbs of fish I kept every year I could probably lead a finacial disaster course but fish taste better when you catch them yourself and chicks dig guys in stanfield tops and raingear.:)

how do u get commercial discount on gas?

My 150 HPDI gets approx 0.9 miles/litre, 10 miles x 2 + trolling with my 4 stroke kicker would be about 30 litres, so approx $40.

Had way too much time on my hands this morning so got out the receipt book and the log book and figured out that so far the salmon I've put into the boat this year have cost $4.37 per pound (gas only - ignoring maintenance, depreciation, tackle, etc).

Just for fun I'm going to track this and see where I'm at at the end of each month. Rather missleading as on most trips I'm making $$$ on charters but still a interesting metric to track. Should be fun to see the month to month and year over year comparisions.

It's a pretty good stat in that at least at a rough level it takes into account boat type, engine size, distance travelled to fishing grounds and skill level. Would be a lot of fun to see this metric for a few thousand fishermen all over the province also having the boat size and engine hp info. You'd then be able to draw some interesting conclusions on most cost effective fishing area's and most cost effective boat/engine sizes. Would also let you figure out who the most skilled fishermen were as if someone with similar sized boat/motor had a much lower cost/pound in the same area as many others the remaining variable is skill.... okay and mayby a little luck :D

See I told you I had way to much time on my hands today if I had time to think about this :)

Get ready for at least $1.50 to $1.70 a litre for us this year but you can still get a charter for $300 a half day in sooke for 4 hours I dont know how these guys are going to survive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I feel sorry for maddog moving to pedder his gas bill will be $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I can see me going to possesion alot this year LOL

Good luck Wolf

They are only kidding themselves running a business at a loss like that you got to figure if you were spending $150 bucks on fuel last year your going to be over $200 to 250 this year so at say 50 trips thats a $2500 to $5000 loss even more if you do over 50 trips you tell me anyone that wants to loose money like that?????

I imagine a lot of guys get into it when they see the fishing out there and consider gas to be the only expense. I wonder what would happen when they book a trip and loose a hali rod over the side, THAT would sting. And let's not forget that charter boats don't just fall out of the sky, especially with the certs and inspections that are required of us.

DAMN. I'd been sitting here, looking up, waiting for our next boat to fall out of the sky :D

Almost bought another boat last year, then almost bought another boat this year, may almost buy another boat next year..... It's hard enough to make back the money when you have to pay for the boat, gas and maintenance but when you add staff charges as well... mayby a smaller business is a better business even though we are already at capacity with the boat we have...

I hope your way wrong on $1.50-1.70... Anyone ever looked at the cost of barrels or having a private tank and buying direct from a wholesaler??? Is my desperation showing thru yet???

As a way off topic aside if there are any meat eaters in the crowd go out and buy a whack of steaks. Our supplier estimates that steak prices are going to go up 30-40% this summer. We just filled up two freezers as a hedge. Gas prices up, steak prices up, scotch prices up, if I hear cigars prices are going up I'm heading for the roof to jump!!!
