So yesterday at the little q i broke a nice fish off (bad line[8)][B)]) Went out for a quick fish with family friends and stopped at a seal haulout as they dont get out on the water much. Then i saw a seal with a flasher hanging off it. I pull in tight and sure enough its my combo from yesterday! No mistaking it. Full size bright pink hootchie with glow sides. This was about 15 miles from where i lost it the day before. Im guessing the seal grabbed my fish as it dragged the flasher around and hooked itself on the tandems. Small ocean

Hey Kelly, a few years ago we were fishing Barkley Sound when we noticed a rather large salmon that appeared to be struggling on the surface. We approached it and eventually netted it, a 25 lb. plus spring that had a hootchie and flasher still attached to it...... go figure....:) obviously they don't all come this easy! :D SS

ps that was the only fish we got that day...:( but what the heck, I will take them which ever way I can........:) SS

I was fishing at ambleside when I was young. I had bought my first boat and I was a newbee at saltwater fishing. No downrigger, just weights and lots of line out. I put a green flasher and a chovie down. I was fishing for a while and then when brought my line it up there was this ugly sparkly green flasher and a 6 inch long black apex on it! Some bugger must have hooked my gear and swapped flasher and set up on me without me even knowing!! The currents were pretty strong that day so I didnt even noticce what my line was doing!!

Still puzzles my to this day! Anyone admit to this!?!

I wish it were me:D, man that's funny.

Last year, fishing Ferrer out of Esperanza, there was a grandpa with two young grandkids trolling about 100 yards in front of us. One of the youngsters gets a nice spring on and as I was trying to turn out as to not hinder his fight my partner jumps up dips our net in the water and comes up with a #20+ Springer. He had netted it just as it had broken of on our downrigger, flasher and all. The grandpa and kids were surprised and happy when we pulled up and returned their gear and the fish. They thought it had just broken off and was gone. :D:D

Kelly, that's a great story for the grandkids someday!

Just got back from Ukee. First day out my son noticed a flasher being drug around. We chased the fish down after loosing sight of it for a few minutes and scooped the flasher with the net. It was a 10-12 lb wild coho so we took the gear and released the fish.

That hootchie / flasher combo ended up catching most of our fish this trip including the biggest: a just barely 30lb spring.

Then a couple of days later we saw another one, this time the fish had lots of life and was a keeper - about a 20lb chinook hooked in the tail. After chasing for a bit I got the flasher and lost the fish. Man my wife was choked at me. I told her that it probably would not have been a legal way to catch one anyway... She was still choked...

Telling this to a guide on the dock, he said one day he trolled up a rod and reel with a live fish on it. They landed the fish...

Okay Last Story: Many moons ago my grandpa was fishing for dollies on Kootenay Lake with a fancy new plug he bought. He snapped off and lost a big fish and his new plug only to catch the same fish later that same day. He got the fish and his new plug back...

Here's one from my past...while out trolling solo, the rod popped off the downrigger and the fight was on. I was using an old knucklebuster which was down to only one handle. So's I'm reeling a decent salmon in, lots of head shaking, and the one remaining handle falls off the reel. Just then the head shaking gets crazy. Picture this, I'm holding the rod up, trying to keep the line tight, bending over and finding the handle, the small screw, and opening my tacklebox and getting a screwdriver. Get all the parts, now to get the handle reattached, and the rod is just shaking like crazy. I managed to get it back together and got the fish in. With all the commotion, I didnt get the manual downrigger up to the boat. Now I'm reaching for the net and the fish slowing does a 360 around the deepline, I'm yelling NOOOOO. I could see another boat near me pissin themselves laughing. Luckily the fish did a slow reverse 360 and slipped into the net. A nice 18#.

Some very interesting stories. Last year fishing in Nootka Sound I have the line POP off the down rigger and then, and instant sreaming Peetz single action reel. I knew this fish probably is one of the biggest fish I have ever hooked. After 200 plus yards of line the fish turns and heads towards the boat almost just as fast!Trying to stay on the fish i'm palming in the fish and reeling as fast as I can.Little do I realize that the line has piled up on one side on the reel, jumps off the spool and gets reeled into the gears behind the drum.In an attempt to free the tangled line it breaks in my hand!I think my words were something like holy s#$t!!! At this point the fish is under the boat sulking like many springs do.I put two raps around my hand to hold the fish and with the other, held the rod which is doubled over and buzzed the reel apart. My dad who is fishing with me cleans the tangled line, puts the reel back together and reties the line from the reel to the fish.We did this repair in probably less than a minute! With his o.k. I let go of the line and reel in on the fish. One last short run, some head shaking and the fish is in the net.A nice 37lber!
