Fuel Capacity Requirements for Tuna Trips

I agree totally on the jiggle hose !!! Princess Auto - $9 !! best way to transfer for sure - no tipping jugs while boat rolls, no spills and drains the jerry can to drops. If you hear the main tank filling before the jerry can is drained, you just lift the siphon end and the ball spring instantly closes tight.
You CAN'T pour faster!

I'm sold. Thanks for the Tip. I'm just going to get one for general use.

The fuel thing is probably my greatest concern on every tuna trip, besides the weather. My 27ft welded boat (twin 130 s) has a 375L tank, and I usually take an additional 150L in jerry cans, which I funnel in when necessary. Usually I tie them to the bow rails so that if they leak the fuel doesn't end in the cockpit. I run out of Coal Harbour / Quatsino , and usually stop at Cains Island light to top up before heading offshore. If I have to add fuel from a jerry can, we always have a fire extinguisher ready. I dig the idea of the jiggle hose, gonna pick one up. One thing nobody has mentioned is the fuel filters. Nothing plugs em up quicker than a low tank and rough weather, I always carry several spares. Good discussion, can't wait till next year!!

This item came up in discussion(shaker siphon) and I acquired a couple. They are very useful and tidy even tho I will not use them for tuna I highly recommend them for safety. I know I will not be pouring fuel from a gerry can ever again. Whats impressive is you can draw fuel from a container that only has 3 or 4 inches in the bottom of it and just about suck it dry of fuel. You will want to have a rag handy tho to wipe the tub when finished or you can spin it around in the air to dry it off. My primary use is for diesel so it has to be wiped.
