I see that the government is blaming a possible warmer ocean (again) for the sockeye that didn't show. How convenient to continue to blame something that cannot be proved or disproved. We all know what is going on. Our sector should call on a total ban on any Fraser River sockeye (by anyone) until science finds the reason for their poor numbers. Maybe that will speed them up and get on with admitting whats going on. How can they justify anyone killing a single Fraser sockeye so long as they preach to have no answers as to why they don't return?

Not to knock fish farms, (as I do dislike them). I think they should fallow the farms on the migration route and impose a total ban on taking of Fraser Sockeye and any other guesses until their commission wraps up since they need 18 months to study it.
This way the pressure on them will mount from all groups, native, sporties, commercial, and fish farm companies to find a proper answer before they go the way of the Atlantic cod.

The other thing that rubs me the wrong way is in the announcement they said that fishing was not a contributor as all commercial and native fisheries were shut down. WTF, that is an outright lie!!!! Natives shut down, I didn't see a blue moon all year, or snow. Why are they so afraid to admit that FN fisheries continued even when numbers suggested they shouldn't. Say it the way it is or shut the F^&k up!
Charlie, the oxygen dead zone off the NWC is something we need in our own atmosphere to wake us up. I've always thought that man won't act on his environmental impact until scientists announce that O2 levels are dropping. Or until he turns the tap on and nothing comes out of it. Hmmmm, well maybe there would still be a few who would call it bunk and carry on.

Yup. When I heard the warmer ocean temps were partly to blame and come out as the first bit of info to the inquiry I deffinatley chuckled. So if many runs are improving because of favorable ocean temps where are the Fraser Sox' going?

I'm not so sure about the ocean temp.being the problem.
Last summer i didn't see a reading above 48 degrees.
Currently ocean temp is reading 46.5 to 47.5 , which is cold
water that salmon prefer to travel in.

Well, if you really get into Ocean temp and Sockeye you will find there "is" a warming that is affecting them... But guess what... as far as the studies go, all the warmer temp is doing is pushing them a little farther into AK? It is only affecting their migration route. It is "not" affecting their feed or feeding habits. The "predators" stay in the warmer temps the sockeye stay in their cooler temps. Is there an additional exposure, sure that’s proven... but, it isn't really affecting the entire species as suggested! Nature is leaving that up to “us”, to wipe them out!

Its fairly obvious why ocean conditions are singled out and given the thumbs up by politicians and DFO as the probable cause. They can't be blamed for it as there is little one country can do to change this on their own. It is a global problem so no direct political harm to them to use it as the reason. Anything else would BE something they could effect and reverse with the stroke of a pen.
