I arrived at the Cowichab Bay Government warf this morning at 0600 to find the Cowichan Indian Band netting PINKS for ceremonial purposes...I started fishing ,trying everything I had in my box of lures including flies,,,at approx 0800 I had to leave but came back to see an older probably in his 30's native male fishin for Pinks in a span of 30 minutes he I thought caught 2 silver beauties from right off shore underneath the PUB,,, a big school came in and started finning and jumping so I casted my rooster tail single barbless hook out past the schooling PINKS and snagged up with this natives line,,I told him to stop as it was closer to me he said ( something ignorant) but I said let it go i've got it,,,,mainly because I wanted to see what magic he was usinr,,,,I reel his line in to see a weigh-large trble hok hidden under a large pink hoochie--- while i held this in my hand I called to him to say""" YOU KNOW ITS ILLEGAL TO SNAG FISH AND USE A TREBLE HOOK!!!! """ his comment was ----AS LONG AS ITS BARBLESS ITS OK AND HE WENT ON TO TELL ME HE HAS BEEN DOING THIS AT THE NANAIMO RIVERS AND UP ISLAND----with that I dropped his line and broke down my rod and left---DISGUSTED--- because earlier i was approached by a delightfull DFO FISHERIES OFFICER WILLI JANSEN WHO CHECKED OUR LICENCES AND GEAR ALLONG WITH MY BUDDIES GEAR ETC,,,,,
