flashers

has anyone had a failure using flashers without the brass grommet installed? say if you used a clip where the grommet goes. has this worn or failed?

Are you meaning, if you drill your own hole off center at the back end of the flasher? The plastic is pretty thick, I can't see it failing as long as the hole isn't too close to the edge.

The brass insert is missing. My customer was going the make up some new skins for them. But if the hole is just going to wear out I wont bother

I would think it will wear eventually, but it should give a lot of use until it starts to move awkwardly before it wears through completely. Or is lost on a snag or fish that finishes it off.

If your worried about it wearing use a large duolock with a swivel on the end. Put a small plastic or rubber tubing over the duolock to sheath it, and protect it from wear. I think it would take a long time to wear anyways, but that should help. Another option would be to use some stainless rigger cable sheath it with tubing and crimp a swivel on the end. Or you could use the plastic coated stainless leader like used in musky fishing, and crimp it on. Just thought of it now, I use 300lb mono and crimps, or you could use stainless with a plastic thimble. lots of ways to prevent wearing if you get creative.
