Relatively new to fishing bait. What do you guys prefer to use for chovies? Down here I've had success with fish flash and kone zones but have been curious about using it off one of my Hot spots.

I assume you live below the 49th when you say down here? I have never even heard of "fish flash" and "kone zones" but again assume they are flashers/attractors. Most north wescoast salmon fishers use either hotspot/oki style flashers when trolling bait with great success. Even better, rig your chovies in a bait harness...most popular are anchovy specials and krippled anchovy - come in a million colours. Leader lenghts vary from 4 - 8 feet with six being a standard. Good luck!

Yup, I live in Washington, US and fish the straits of Juan de fuca and puget sound. Fish flashes are a big triangular flasher that spins on it's own access. Kone zones are an oval/triangular type of flasher that spins on its own access as well as rotate. check this out: http://www.bigfishtackle.com/forum/General_Fishing_C2/Product_Testers_Wanted_F80/Kone_Zone_High_Visibilty_Trolling_Flasher-_(CLOSED)_P66246/
Kone zones are relatively new, but the fish flashes are pretty popular with the cut plug guys.

What kind of brine do you guys up there use? Upon some lurking we use something similar. Bait cooler, a whole package of non-iodized salt and frozen chovies left out over night in distilled water and some blueing and scent added in.

They spin on there own axis. They are good in shallows like rivers They have no action for bait.I used them o0n the columbia river.

thanks the runt

I prefer Fishflash to Konezones. www.fishflash.com (personal pref)They work well for Chinook or Coho and I prefer to run them when fishing more than two rods - saves tangles.

Typically will run couple of Hotspots off the outside riggers then run a couple of fishflashs off the stearn. The rig is Fishflash tied directly behind Delta divers with 42-60" leader back to cut-plug, Ry Davis, Bucktail Fly or Hoochie at about at 10-15 pulls. Killer coho set-up in the propwash and it will catch their share of Springs when they holding closer to suface.

BT "Thumper" Spinners work realy well on this set up either in tidal river areas or in the salt with barbs or single hooks with regs dictates. Typically people think river when running spinners but I've nailed a ton of chinook in the salt with them - a proven perfomer. Colors are Red/White, Brass with Red/White tip, Chartruses Blue Rainbow, #6 and # 7 blades
