doubletake, there are many areas where the fishing isn't as good as it used to be! The information that I get is that is slower than in previous years. Also, there are a lot less people fishing that area, so a lot less fish are going to be caught. I usually fish Oak Bay in the May - June period. Somedays the fish are there and cooperative, and other days they are not. Sometimes they bite all day, other times only in the morning or afternoon. That said, most of the Victoria guides do not fish there as much as they used to, as they have large fast boats that can easily head west to where there are stronger runs of fish. July has been slow off both Victoria and Oak Bay for the last couple of years. Then at the end of July or early August, we get our run of big springs that hug the shoreline and kelp beds. Last year I did not fish east of Trial Island but once in May-June because the fsihing was so good (one of, if not my best years ever)west of Trial Island. I was away in July so don't have much first hand knowledge and the first two weeks of August were very slow. Then I did great with many limits of mature springs and getting good fish every trip.
