I'm from Manitoba and will be coming to Vancouver Island on March 15 for a week to visit family on Salt Spring. I'm trying to convince my husband to come with me by suggesting he go fishing. He says there's no good fishing in March. Does anyone know of anywhere he could go fishing (we'd be willing to travel anywhere on the Vancouver Island necessary)? I think he'd prefer saltwater but would probably try freshwater there too. Thanks

There may be some opportunity for feeder chinooks in the 6-15 lb
class. some of the members that fish in the gulf islands could
comment on that.
there are a few charter guides that are based on the islands
and i would suggest doing an internet search for same.

there are some feeders around sooke and sidney areas but Halibut is go in March.

Lots of good fishing around both in fresh and salt. Heck, your surrounded by water. March is very productive in sansum narrows, sturart channel and out at Porlier Pass. Excellent lakes to fish on Saltspring for awakening bass and early spring trout and there is the Cowichan River for steelhead which is primo in mid March. You can send me an e if you want more info.

Mid March is when the springs rebound from the over abundance of spawning herring in the straight. It is also the time that the first of the early spring migratory fish start to show in the Nanaimo waters. Again it depends on the timing of the spawn as the fish become a little bothered by all of the fodder in the water.. If you are in the area and are interested in a charter email me at dirtdog67@hotmail.com-cheers dirty
