Find me a Grady White 228 Seafarer

This listing at Galleon looks pretty good. Top end of your budget @Edselrt

Yup nice, and galleon survey the boats before they consign them, at least they use too, they wont sell rotten boats lol, says pending now

When I was on a hunt, I was really considering this one, super clean and sexy lines. Albermarle are proven hull with great pedigree
Been in the market for a while and I bet he will deal

I did a sea trial of that boat. Engine stalled twice while idling. Transom sits really low that water comes out from the floor drain if you step near the back. hard top is leaking as well. I have an accepted offer on that boat already. I will have to talk to them about those issues or should I just cancel it?

What are you seeing that I'm not with this linked ad? A 25 year old boat, no hardtop, located 5300+ km away...and listed by POP Yachts ( a notoriously sketchy online boat broker outfit) all for $34,000USD ($46,000CDN) plus transportation and import fees. It does have a newer motor...
Well below his budget and if someone wants a Grady White for under 60k they are not looking at 10 year old boats. Should be no import fees, just taxes on US made boats. Some members love the trolling motor, 10k option, most love the new power and trailer. Get it for 30k after a survey and you are laughing after a great seatrail/week of using it down south, ship it home.

Engine stalls while at idle, might be due to compression? I personally would say the sea trail was a failure and withdraw the offer. Unless their service manager can fix the problem and give a reasonable explanation and subsequent sea trail. New power is likely 40k for a 300?

How about the scupper that is below the water, is that a big issue?

Sounds like you went on the seatrial before you posted this thread. I'd keep looking

Scupper under water might be due to the bracket not having much buoyancy and the boat having been designed/built for 2-stroke engines (lighter by 75-100lbs compared to that Suzuki).

My boat with a 250lb buddy has water coming out of the scuppers, in the corner he is standing in. If it’s me and the kids it doesn’t. If I had no kicker, downriggers and weights, it probable wouldn’t even with big guys. Was anyone big in the corners? If you are going to add a kicker, downriggers and a couple big fishermen I’d be concerned. Kicker is 100+ lbs.

Lots of boats get water from the self balling through hulls, mine included,I put new ones on with the flaps and all good now. The other issues are normal stuff for old boats , 4 strokes are heavy and makes them stern heavy, the stalling at idle they should fix,get a survey done for sure, and a mechanical
