The fish was caught on aug 16 of 05. The fellow who reeled it in was John Ridley, who was out with his dad Jack on that trip (who has since passed away) It took John an hour and a half, and well into the dark to get it near the boat. John was pretty much on that trip just to hang out with his dad. It was pretty funny the rest of the trip because I was more excited than them!! I think any saltwater fisherman would agree that any fish over the 50lb mark is the holy grail of numbers. Towards the end of the trip and on our last morning out they asked me how I would feel about them giving me the fish!, I couldnt believe it. They did ask that since the fish was caught in Nootka, that it would stay there, and so I wanted a replica and we would give skin mount to the lodge. I gave the fish to a Campbell River Taxidermist at the time requesting the 2 mounts and gave a $700 depoisit. That was 7 YEARS ago. I wont name the guy (mike moss) but back in June, I learned that the fish went rotten in an unplugged deepfreeze, and I hadnt heard from him in 2 years previous. Do your research before you hand over a trophy of a lifetime to anyone!!
Just want to again Thank John Ridley for giving me the fish I guided And A huge thank you to Craig Stolle of Artistic Wildlife Creations Inc. For putting me towards the top of his list to do that fish in very short order over the course of the summer. It is fantastic! and looks dam good on my wall.
