Esperanza Reports?

Sorry Jim and Charlie I know this should be put to rest but I just saw this now as I haven't been on the site for a bit . I hope you guys ( and everyone else here) doesn' mind me saying how I feel about this.
I scanned through all these posts and I think its too bad that Jim and Charlie ran into this "you did copy" "no I didn't copy" issue.

I don't really understand what happened but I do know Charlie feels certain Jim copied Charlie's custom charts/Maps with fishing spots added.
I also know that Jim says he didn't copy Charlie's customized charts/Maps and that Jim's fishing spots on his maps charts were spots learned on his own.
Navionics charts surely are very heavily copyrighted so no one should publish navionics charts without their permission ( this site would be much less of a problem as Navionics would likely not care at all about references to their charts. After all its free advertising for them. Neither Charlie nor Jim should ever claim copywright on their customized charts/maps and publish them unless they got written permission from Navionics first.
The idea of colouring fishing areas on a chart is common so unless Charlie published custom maps with shading where an obvious style shape/detail of shading with identical sized spots and identical written information arrows etc etc. (and there was proof beyond a doubt that they were copied) , it would never even come close to a lawsuit.
Here is the simple way of looking at this without all the stuff about claiming copywright:
Jim is simply saying he didn't copy the maps that Charlie designed. We have to decide whether Jim is telling the truth and if Jim is telling the truth , great and Charlie is mistaken. If Jim did copy Charlie's maps, even a little....he shouldn't have without asking Charlie and then mentioning Charlie in a credit.
No matter who did what to whom in this case, just plain simple common lesson: we should treat others the same as we want to be treated.
So... thank you for your concern and I beleive Jim and I can agree on that? But, let me see if I have this right...? You are giving US and this entire forum advice, but YOU don't even have the courtesy of providing YOUR correct email address? [?]

Thank you, but under those conditions... Jim and I will work out our own problems!!!![:0]

How is the fishing at Esperanza anyway? I've been up that way, but never had a chance to wet a line -in from off-shore for weather.

Just tested the email address...thanks, didn't know there was a typo. Should not be 'underscore' but a 'dash' between the first two words. I will fix that tomorrow. My address should be
clear-skies863@hotmail.com if you want to PM me .
Not sure though why that should make a big difference in your acceptance of my opinion in this forum. If having the correct e-mail is so important to you, you could have easily just asked to PM me and let me know my address wasn't working. Why you'd claim ( and seem to have assumed) I am not having the courtesy to provide my address, as if that was on purpose, I am not sure .
I hope you also don't have a problem with me having offered an opinion to this forum topic ....I thought that was part of what a forum is all about ( otherwise we would all just stick to private e-mails and stay off forums ). If you wanted to have a private chat with Jim and kept others comments and opinions out of it , you could have chatted to Jim in private - you have his website/address.

Dido Peahead!Speaking for myself, I have enjoyed reading the many forumns and have learned a lot about salt water fishing from these guy's.I truly hope they can resolve their issues.:)

having read all of this, i am totally confused, hummm, not too unusual now that i think about it. charlie, i really don't understand what intellectural property was posted that violated a copyright you claim to have.

so far i have seen chart snap shots, not entire charts or electronic copies of a chart chip, and written descriptions of technique. i doubt that you are actually navionics in disguise, so that leaves the words. how did someone get ahold of your writting without your permission? if you freely handed out your writing for peer review, did they sign an exclusive 'not disclose' agreement with you or a publisher?

still confused, or maybe i missed the point entirely. but no matter, i am always interested in learning from folks who have obviously spent way more time on the water than i have, jim and charlie a big thanks to both of you. so if a book is in the works, hopefully, charlie, you will let all of us know when it hits the market.

Dido on what reelfast said about learning from people like Charlie and Jim.Your's along with others willingness to pass on info and share your experiences on the water have added a brand new entity to my hobby.(one that I enjoy more than most anything else). I look forward to having my morning coffee and finding out what "I can learn today".I know I leave the dock with more confidence now because of it.So thank you!!With that being said. I am heading to Tuta on Thursday for the long weekend.I will report when we get back. Cheers!!

No place I would rather be (FISH ON)

I gotta say, I don't know why a guide would ever publish such a thing?? Offering tips is one thing but outlining how to fish every spot in the area will NOT produce more business. What it will do is give more guys the confidence to bring up their own boat and fish.

A better strategy would be to offer a bit of advice and give away the farm once they book a charter.

Esperanza is hot!!! Just got back tonight from 4 days of fishing. Picked up 2 keepers this morning on the inside at rosa in about an hour and at least 7 take downs with just little ones on the line. During the week just at rosa, had 2 over 40, a 35, and lots over 20's(TOO BAD FOR THE 77 CM RULE OR WE WOULD HAVE COME HOME WITH A GOOD COOLER OF GREAT FISH). Have any questions just ask. Happy fishing!!!

Just got back from Esperenza. Fished for 3.5 days. Lots of Springs, 2 Halibut and several Coho. Biggest Spring was 31.5 pounds for our boat. Saw two Springs on the dock at Rodgers that were 40 and 41 along with 125 pound hali.

The first day we were out near six mile reef. Weather was beautiful and little wind. Hit numerous Coho, one halibut and a couple springs. Friends were fishing about 1.5 miles in about 220 feet. We moved in and got into 4 or 5 more springs. Our friends were into over 20 Springs with a 30 and 32. They were nailing them on Pickle hoochie at 66 feet. We hit our fish in the 90 to 130 range on glow hoochie, Coho killer and choive.

We fished in closer the next day and caught more Springs upto 28 pounds and not many Coho. The hot ticket was the Pickle hoochie and choive at 66 to 130.

On the third day tried some jigging for Halibut and got one along with 5 red snapper. Trolled for Salmon after that with the odd Spring or Coho until around 2:30 in closer. Moved to the southwest of six mile reef and just started nailing them on a tunable Baitrix choive imitation. Hit several high twenties Springs and biggest 31.5. Had one Spring that busted off that ran for 2 minutes solid on the first run. Never got a look at it but it felt big! Had a 15 pound Coho and 3 double headers. By 5 PM the arms were sore and we headed in.

Last day the wind and fog blew in. Hit Ferrer first thing for 3 Springs nothing big. Then it was getting to rough and foggy by 8:30 AM. Finished up at Rosa for 2 more Springs and a Coho. Lots of boats fishing with the odd fish at Rosa. Left at 1 PM.

All in all it was trip to remember. Thanks to Jim and Charlie for all their help on the area.:D

Good report, sounds like you had a great trip! Isn't that a beautiful place? :)

Now it is my turn, "Gone Fishing" starting tomorrow! :D:D:D

Thanks for the reports Northriverrunner and Cohochinook. It sounds like you both hit it hard and did well. I head up to Esperanza in a week and can't wait. This will be my third trip there but I have never heard of "Six Mile Reef". Where the heck is that Cohochinook and what is a "Pickle" hoochie? A particular color of hoochie or style?

Six Mile reef is the first reef you hit slightly to the Northwest of Esperenza. It's about a 30 minute run if it's not too rough. You'll see it on a chart.

The Pickle hoochie is also called Spackleback or Splatterback depending on which manufacture you buy it from.

You should have a great trip!

Well, back from 4 days at Esperanza and talk about sick!! Four of us fished the Highway and had our limit of Springs from 25# to 40# in the first two days! We marked a spot holding baitfish and every troll over produced a good fish and in most cases a double.

The last two days we poked around Rosa, Black Rock, Ferrer and Flower catching and releasing countless Springs way over the slot limit. Had fun with these though as we would tail these fish to ensure they were de-hooked and returned in perfect condition.

Spent very little time on hali but managed to hook 3 including a 30# at Black Rock in 40 feet of water.

We also didn't concern ourself with keeping coho too much as our focus was purely chinook. Not to mention our home waters of Sooke/Renfrew are sworming w/ coho and pinks.

We stayed at Flynn's Cove for the first time and what an amazing place. Great accomodations, location, scenery and the owner Ann did absolutley everything to ensure we were completely comfortable and taken care of. Needless to say we will be back same time and same place next year.

Just want to openly thank Charlie for all his "behind the scene" tips and advise he provided us. This allowed us to zero in on the hotspots alot quicker and from there it was like shooting ducks in a barrel.

Once I get organized will post a few tyee pics!

got back on the 31st and had a blast 16 kings 28 to 38 lbs and 9 silvers
we are headed back on the 15th of august hope the fires and weather cooperate.

It got a little quiet on this thread. I'm heading up this Wednesday for a week. Is the fishing still holding up? Sushihunter, I'll give you a call after we arrive to buy you that adult beverage that I promised.
